    Default Windows

Microsoft Windows is a series of operating systems produced by Microsoft.

Microsoft introduced an operating environment named Windows on November 20, 1985 as an add-on to MS-DOS in response to the growing interest in graphical user interfaces (GUIs). Microsoft Windows came to dominate the world's personal computer market, overtaking Mac OS, which had been introduced in 1984. As of October 2009, Windows had approximately 90% of the market share of the client operating systems for usage on the Internet.

The most recent client version of Windows is Windows 7; the most recent server version is Windows Server 2008 R2; the most recent mobile version is Windows Phone 7.

In 2011, numerous leaked builds of Microsoft's next operating system, Windows 8, leaked onto the internet, demonstrating various milestones in the OS's development. At the Microsoft Developer Forum in Tokyo, May 23, 2011, Microsoft CEO, Steve Ballmer, announced the next version of Windows will be available in 2012. The Operating System appears to have touchscreens and tablets in mind

Features expected to be introduced in Windows 8 include USB 3.0 support (from a standard install disc), a ribbon interface in Windows Explorer, the Windows Store, the Protogon Filesystem, and Windows To Go, among other anticipated features.
