Hey hope you can help me,

I got my defy Friday (26 August) and I can't get it to upgrade by using the "Motorola Software Upgrade". It just tells me the EMEI number and says that There is currently no software available for download.

My System Stats Prove Otherwise:
System version: Moto_version.2.51.2.MB525.Vodacome.enGB (Yes it says Vodacome)
Firmware Version:2.1-update1

Errrmmm, that is because there are no software updates from Motorola for the phone?

What do you want to update? The operating system? There is no official update past Android 2.1 for the Defy. If you want something better you are going to need to root your phone and install a custom ROM.

So far Android 2.2 is only available in a select few countries. If you are lucky they will ship it here as well.

I thought Defy only made tumble driers

I wouldn't trust a Defy Phone.

edit: my apologies, I only saw the motarola part now...... yeah you're stuffed.

There is an update. Froyo is available.

THere's a 2.2.2 update for the Motorola Defy. The easiest way for me to update it was to first get my hands on a couple of different applications, find them on the motorola website / motodev site:

1. Motorola Media Link
2. Motorola USB Drivers
3. Motorola Software Update / Manager

First step would be to go to www.motorola.com (http://www.motorola.com/Support/XZ-E...out_blur_XZ-EN) and then get all of these files from there. Click on UPDATE MY SOFTWARE which will take you here: http://direct.motorola.com/hellomoto/support/update/
After selecting your country, you select MOTODEFY from the drop down menu.
That should take you to this site: http://direct.motorola.com/ENG/Softw...n.ASEAN.v9.pdf

Follow the steps shown there. The same goes for when doing it through the software. I think if I remember correctly you'll still have to do it through the software. It worked for me. I had to update 2 phones over one night. Just keep your IMEI number close.
