Email addy woes when changing ISPs

with respect with the email, best is to register your own domain, it is not completely free as it cost like ~R50 per year + some hosting, but it is by far the most flexible option

you can host it even at home on your adsl line, setup an email server and with some of the dyndns services that support linking to real domains

Quote stolen from a locked thread - but I just wanted to point out that the part I bolded, well if I am correct Telkom says you are not allowed to use your ADSL line to do this. It's in the terms and conditions. (I may be wrong, though I don't think so).

Regards Email, cheap is cheap... we charge R15.00 per month per address, or R69.00 per month for upto 10 addresses. You could probably get it cheaper if you look around, but be carfull when selecting an ISP. You don't want your email down all the time.

It might also pay to get your ADSL and your hosting from 1 company, that way you only have to call 1 place if something doesn't work.

Just as I thought this was getting easy, Carlhead speaks of DNS zones setup. Anyone care to be to kind enough to explain this part of the process.
 
You can setup a .za.net domain for free and use zoneedit.com for dns servers, you then create a mailforward that points [email protected] to [email protected].

You can from now on only give out your [email protected] email address and if your mail host ever changes you just logon to zoneedit.com and change the mailforward to [email protected] to [email protected] for example.

So from now u only give people you za.net domain email address and never have to worry about changing it.
 
Just use gmail or yahoo mail ... why on earth do people still bother with ISP email addresses ???.

The only limitation I saw on Telkomsa.net's site is prohibiting network services on dial-up accounts. It would be interesting if this differed from the Telkom's ToC.
