Footage of a disabled girl being beaten with a leather belt by her father - a family law judge - has sparked worldwide fury after she posted it online.

More than 1.6m people have viewed the secretly filmed YouTube video of 16-year-old Hillary Adams being hit 17 times by Arkansas County Judge William Adams.
In my mind, I haven't done anything wrong other than discipline my child after she was caught stealing.

Police in Texas have now launched an investigation into the beating, which was apparently a punishment for her downloading a video pirating programme to her computer.
The distressing footage was filmed seven years ago but has only just been posted online.
It shows Ms Adams, now 23, being repeatedly lashed by her father who promises to beat her her "into submission".

Hillary Adams said she partly regrets posting the video

In the opening seconds of the video the 51-year-old judge is heard telling Hillary’s mother: "Go get the belt. The big one. I'm going to spank her now."
He repeatedly tells her to "bend over the bed" before shouting: "Lay down or I'll spank you in your f****** face."
Hillary, who has ataxic cerebral palsy, is heard screaming and crying while her father ignores her pleas for him to stop the blows to her legs.
A few minutes into the video, her mother barks at her to "turn over like a 16-year-old and take it. Like a grown woman".
She also takes the belt and hits her daughter with it herself.
After a brief pause, the judge returns to the room and continues the beating.
He then warns his daughter: "If I hear so much as you raise your f****** voice to me or your mother... or you do one thing, or even look at me f****** wrong, I'm gonna take you and I'm gonna wear your f****** ass out with this belt."
Ms Adams, who denies posting the video in revenge, said she had mixed feelings about the angry response it has prompted.

That's horrific.

Its like they enjoy it. How can you be so... violent and aggressive?

Its disgusting.

I support discipline - spankings and such - but not this. This is not discipline, this is abuse. She should be removed from their care, I think they take too much pleasure in beating her.

EDIT: According to this, it happened seven years ago, happened regularly, and she only posted it now because she is no longer living as a minor in his house. Her mother has since divorced him and apologized to her daughter. And there is an investigation into it.

Agh guys, relax, it happened years ago, he apologized and he says it's not as bad as it looks on tape.

Plus, I mean come on, his daughter was on the internet, beating deserved. Durr.
 
I followed this closely the other day on another forum and from what I could discern, is that a lot of people do not understand the difference between corporal punishment and down right abuse. People were using the excuse that her illegal activities would threaten his career and so it was justified. Some people even compared her abuse to theirs and because it wasn't up to par, was perfectly acceptable.

In my opinion, this was completely uncalled for and the judge at one stage says the following "I will beat you into submission." That perfectly describes the whole ordeal. It was not punishment, it was a beating.

I certainly wasn't being. Well, I was, but not in the way I possibly think you think I was being.

It was a horrid video, and he's clearly an awful man.

On the off-chance you really did think I was being anything but facetious, and on the even slimmer off-chance the word 'heathen' in your post might be directed at me, I'd just like to point out that it's 90% chance the idiot doing the beating is a Christian man, no doubt doing god's work.

Aaaanyway, just covering all my bases. :D

But on a serious note, i was raised in the time when a belt was used now and again but geez this is horrific! Girls rarely got corporal punishment and it was usually a hand or ruler or something 1 or 2 whips and its over. Even when boys got it it was usually the teacher and it was 2-3 whips at the most and much more tame than that! This is assault!

But also at 16 one can tell the difference between punishment and assault in her case she did so she recorded it but in a boys case he would probably just punch back and start a fight cause that's what it is a bloody brawl.

A video pirating programme?!?!?!?

If that's the criteria for a beating with a belt then I would have had to be executed by decapitation long ago.
 
This not surprising behaviour from a conservative US judge. This is essentially what they do to drug users there.

How about neither? How about parents who care about her instead of abuse her? I'm not saying dont discipline her, but then, this wasnt discipline, this was abuse, plain and simple.
 
I was also punished with a belt when I was younger... and I have no problem with it. It was four short sharp smacks with a folded over belt.

But it was nothing like this, and it stopped about the age of 13.

This is nothing short of physical abuse.

I agree , but if the anti piracy authorities caught her she could very well ended up with jail time, which I personally think would have been worse - affecting not only her personal future but also that of her fathers seeing as he is a judge.

This begs the question should this judge have handed in his child to the authorities - risking both his and her future.

Ignore it - if caught by authorities - still risk his and her future.

Punish her himself to prevent her from doing illegal activities in future.(the method of punishment I agree was over the top and unnecesary). Thus securing both his and her future.

Disclaimer: This doesn't change my viewpoint that anti piracy measures are outdated and the only way to prevent piracy is for the software/entertainment industry to change their bussiness models. :D

Hillary said she secretly videotaped the beating in her bedroom because she "knew something was about to happen." She says her parents were angry at her for using her computer to download pirated content over the internet.

does this imply that she'd been warned about her actions but persisted anyway, to invoke a reaction out of them perhaps? And no, i'm not saying that she asked for it or that she deserved it. Before someone jumps up crying that i condone child/woman abuse :rolleyes:

Well, no it doesn't mean that. If this is their reaction to her doing anything wrong she would simply been aware of that. But, even if she had, what's the problem? Are you accusing her of entrapment? Poor parents. Tricked into being abusive *******s.
