Telkom Rant - Drop ADSL Speed/Move ADSL Line/Drop ADSL Cap

OK guys...

Finally, my "wife" was able to get that other call removed last week, and then logged the fault. The fault has now been sorted out, and that call removed from their system.

The request to move my line has now been logged, more than 4 months after I originally started trying! My line at the current premises has been booked to be disconnected on the 15th of May, and the reconnection "should be done by then as well". We shall wait and see... But at least we have a reference number this time!

Cheers

Me again. More bad news...

The girlfriend went back to the house this morning to check e-mail (As previously mentioned, we still don't have our Internet up and running at the flat). ADSL not working at all, can't call out, can't receive calls.

She phones Telkom from the other line at the house... They've disconnected the line!!
Ella: "But there's a booking logged to do that on the 15th of May!"
Techie: "..."

*sigh* Can't these idiots get their acts together?! I mean, THIS takes the cake! What do you suppose they think "Please disconnect line on 2006-05-15" means??

Anyway, they're gonna have it reconnected and "phone her back". I'll bet by the time they get it reconnected, it'll be the 15th of May, and it'll be due to be disconnected again. THEN I might actually get it disconnected in August. :P

Oh, and still no word on when they will come and install it at the flat either. They're supposed to phone us and give us a date, so we can make sure someone's home.

Cheers

Hi, All

Some feedback on this issue.

My girlfriend phoned Telkom today, to find out why we have not received a call to book a date to install the new line. We discovered the following things:

1. The lady she spoke to can't tell us why the line was disconnected before the 15th of May, as was booked. The disconnect was deliberate, and was not part of the sabotage that Telkom experienced a few weeks back (It happened to have been disconnected on the same day as that article hit MyADSL, so we thought it might have been). The line is still disconnected.

2. She can't tell us why we haven't received a phone call yet, as according to her, we should have received one last week already.

3. Most disturbing of all, the lady who originally logged the booking stuffed up. The port on the exchange, which our line was plugged into, is reading as "Port Reserved" from their system. This means that that number has been earmarked for someone else!!

We have the date on which we phoned to place the order, the reference number, and the person we spoke to. Surely someone there can pull out the original recorded conversation where that booking was made, and will hear, very clearly, my girlfriend saying that WE CANNOT CHANGE OUR NUMBER! We were even assured at the time that our number would not need to change, as the new premises is on exactly the same exchange as the old one.

This third point is one I'm NOT going to let go! I cannot tell you how many people have that number... business contacts have that number!

The lady Elmari spoke to today has apparantly e-mailed the person who originally logged the order, and will phone her back when she gets a reply. Don't hold your breath.

Is there anything at all I can do about this? I do not want that number changed! Who can I get hold of that can pull that phone call?

Cheers

Maybe you'll make money if you put this in a book and sell it?

I want to have nothing to do with the incompetence of this company, I will go to somebody else... it's their problem if they lose customers because of this.

Hope you'll come on right.

You can always ask an iBurst or Sentech reseller to come out and do some testing and demo free at your residence to make sure you get a good signal.

Nocturne m8.
If its any consolation you are not alone. One of many many disgruntled and p1ssed off Telkom customers who in real terms don't have any other options.

I moved out of one residence to another city end of Jan '06.
I did everything and then-some that was required of me to have my line cancelled and have a new one installed at my new place in the different city.

My invoice for the new account was horribly wrong and they double charged me for everything. When I complained (after many failed attempts too get through on 10210) I was told to just pay the thing and that they would credit me the money back!!!
I said that was ridiculous and they should supply me with a correct invoice and then i would gladly pay immediately.
After much arguments and another wrong invoice, I WAS JUST CUT OFF!!!.
Hence I was forced to pay the outstanding amount, be it correct or not, + reconnection fees on the new invoice, and then pray to the God of my choice that Telkom, in their wisdom, would sort out the errors and credit me the overcharged money some time this century.

Wonderful, but that's only half the problem.

I am STILL being invoiced by Telkom for my old line and ADSL that i cancelled at my old address. The line is still active today, in MAY, when it was cancelled in JAN.
The monies owing (according to Telkom) up till end of last month were well in excess of R2000.
I have phoned and faxed and had the same problems, errr what fax sir, which number did you send to, etc etc to no avail.
I have been promised that a supervisor would phone me back to update me on my problem by many a call center drone.
I have received many calls from Telkom, none of them sorting out my problem, all of them demanding money from me!!!!

I can do nothing as a customer and just have to sit and take this crap.
One department doesn't know what the other one is doing. One says the line is cancelled, the other says it isn't and I must just frikkin pay.

The worst part about it is the tone of these people that phone you and demand!!!! They are lucky that they are hiding behind some call center smokescreen.

And lets not get me started on the success rate of actually getting through on 10210
USELESS USELESS USELESS!!!!!!!!!!

I find a bottle of Scotch numbs the mind enough to almost make it all go away.

The_Unbeliever: Unfortunately, I still need a landline at the flat. I would never ever begrudge her or deny her, but truth be told it's costing me quite a bit of money for Elmari to phone her mom from the cellphone all the time. She doesn't have a job yet

Sneeky: I hope it doesn't come to that with me and Telkom, because I honestly can't afford to pay even one month's double billing. Flats and girlfriends cost money, and I don't have nearly as much of it as I had before I had the flat and the girlfriend. ;)

The scotch sounds good, though! :)

To all intents - they are totally incompetent (I wonder if that has anything to do with getting rid of thousands of staff?) - and they don't give a damn - its not their problem - they're only employees (who will now be getting profit sharing and a massive bonus.)

SA's leading telecommunications company is incapable of doing the job in 2006 - monopolies are not efficient or sufficient - look what happened to USSR!

... and no solution to your problem - how about a hide covered drum?!

Hope Her Ivyness's speech sometime in May will be of good cheer to all of us...

Just had another call from Telkom demanding money and telling me that the line will be suspended tomorrow!!!! (the line being the 1 I cancelled in Jan'06 and no longer live at that adddress.

Told the woman that for the love of sanity please suspend, disconnect or even blow the thing up. I don't care. At least it will put a lid on the escalating bill.

The more I try tell her the line was cancelled in Jan'06 the more she says I must pay.
She cant seem to grasp the concept that I dont owe them jackdiddly.

and guess what, She promised her supervisor would call me back, oh goody, LOL heard that before HAHA.

This is infuriating.

What burns me is :
"Why must we the customer do every single thing by the so called book, or be penalised without mercy or understanding, BUT Telkom does not seem to have to worry about these rules, codes of conduct or even common decency, and yet continually pound on about how their service is getting better, how they are investing in their infrastructure for the customers benefit."

Hi, All

I got some very limited satisfaction on this issue over the weekend. We took a drive to the local Telkom office in Alberton City on Saturday. After sitting on their (admittedly rather comfy) couch for about 15 minutes, we were able to see the only enquiries consultant on duty. His name was Julian, and he was very polite and friendly. He confirmed all our problems, but couldn't say why they occurred, other than to surmise that the consultant who disconnected the line before the 15th "obviously can't read". He mentioned the huge backlog in ADSL orders, but that's no excuse to promise something will be done in 4 to 6 weeks when you know full well you won't get to it in 6 months. :p

He was, however, able to organise me a credit on all my ADSL and line rental fees until such time as the line is reconnected. This means that I only have to pay for the calls up until the 21st of April, when the line was disconnected. The amount I have to pay on my April statement is therefore R33, and it looks like the amount for May will probably be nothing.
This means that I can spend a little more money this month connecting to the Internet via GPRS. If I switch all images off on my browser, I can download e-mails and check bank statements, and Elmari can chat on IRC and look for a job online for a bit in May. It's not TOO expensive at R2 a meg. (Don't try downloading any binaries) :p

Will keep the forum updated, as always.

Good news Nocturne. Me wonders why they can't just get it right in the first place. Pity they didn't offer to re-imburse your wasted time, effort and angst. And - its still not fixed.

They don't have enough techies duh.

Some people have been through this more than 2 years ago... I'm surprised it hasn't gotten much worse.

I do pity the few techies they do have, because they get a lot more !@)(#)! coming down on them than they deserve. And they get paid )!@(#.

Then, Tunasashimi, why can't they just tell me that the line move will be done in August? Or November? Or January 2007?! Geez, tell me something! As I said, don't tell me something will be done in 6 weeks when you KNOW there's no way in hell you're going to do it by then!

I know that it's a big stuff up.. Took me FOUR MONTHS to get DSL. Anyways an ex employee of the company that I work for will be going on Telkom's DSL installation training from Monday. I want to see what they actually teach the sorry sods that get "suckered" into it. Pending on what happens, I could see if some strings could be pulled.
