I need a programmable calculator for my studies.

Does anyone have experience with buying programmable calculators, things to look out for?

How do the HP and the Texas Instruments compare? I think the HP would be quite a bit cheaper but can the TI do more?

Thanks guys :)

As always, it comes down to what you will actually use. Yes, it's great geek cred to have a calculator that can do loads of cool stuff... But is it really necessary?

I've used the 50G, and can vouch for it as a solid and awesome-to-use piece of kit. Haven't used the TI.

Even if the TI can do more, the geek cred gained might be offset by the "reputation" of the 50G... But then again, using a Texas Instruments calculator has geek cred of its own... ;)

Everyone I've seen has gone for the HP so I guess that's the route I'll have to go too. Thanks for your input man. Most of the reviews I've read say that the HP is really awesome, solid and powerful whereas the TI is more foccussed on the education side of things.

Thought of getting one on your phone...? Think it may be available as a paid app... I managed without getting one, are you allowed to use it in your exams?

I have, but phones must be turned off in exams/tests. So I need to buy the actual calculator.

Thanks for all the replies!

Thanks, I think the 50G is also the way to go.

Are you studying, or do you work with it?

Studying phd in electrical engineering. Used it a lot for 2nd year, haven't really used it since. But intend to start using it again in the near future

Awesome. Good luck with the Phd! I think I'll do my Masters and then stop :P

That was my plan, univ said that I can upgrade and get the PhD straight instead of doing masters for 2 years and then PhD for 3. I decided that 1 year extra was worth the title.

That's awesome! What uni is this?
