Cerato 2.0i vs Rio 1.4i manual

Hi,

Anyone test drive these 2 models? I did and feel the response of the 1.4i was better in terms of gear change and torque. The 2.0i was to receive software updates in december and I am not sure if the one I test drove had the update done. Sure its 79kW/135Nm vs 115kW/194Nm but the price difference does not warrant choosing the higher spec car.

Boot space is a huge difference but I could always just fit a towbar to the Rio and hire/buy a small luggage trailer for long distance trips which happen once or twice a year.

Any thoughts/experiences would be appreciated.
 
Had a Kia Cerato as a hire a few weeks back. They are damn nice, they look awesome too.

No idea what the support on these cars are as I only had it for 2 days but I liked it... ALLOT

and what's you daily driver?
 
I've owned the 1.6 Cerato since April 2010 and am still in-love with the car. The extras which come as standard make this car outstanding value IMO.

what support are you referring to?
And can you find out if your sister had the software update done for the gearshift lag? I am assuming she has a manual.

My 2.0 Cerato has gone in for its first service today. After speaking to the salesman, he indicated the 2.0 Cerato is still a better buy compared to the Rio. No doubt the facelift on the Rio is outstanding. I would suggest go with the Cerato, you wont go wrong!!!

after doing the math, there is about a 30-35% price difference between the Cerato and Rio. The Rio TEC model is only available end feb, out of stock hence I will have to get the Base model with cloth interior, no PDC, no climate control and different driving lights.

Thought you were referring to support in terms of service/maintenance.

AFAIK she hasn't been in to Kia; would know if/when she was because she's always raving about their service.

I agree there, the Rio is very nice looking car, but i love my Cerato even more. Have the Koup and everything that comes with it for the price I rate is a great deal :-)
 
I've been eyeing the 2.0L auto hatch and I'm close to pulling the trigger. I know there will be a price increase on the Cerato soon, but they said that they are adding some interior features, like bluetooth, at the same time. There is a big difference between the 1.4L and 2.0L engines...

there sure is a difference in the brochure but the gear shift lag is a problem. one dealer in EL stated there are 4 solutions to the problem and one being the software update. as for the price difference it's Cerato 2.0 Manual Hatch R213 995 (-R10 000 cash back) so it will be 214k for the auto. i should think that includes VAT but excludes delivery pack. as for the bluetooth it will be on the 2012 models. i dont know pricing on those. they were expected around June.

Dude, seriously?

Don't you think you're over googling the car? Shift lag? Seriously?
You have to be a pro race driver to experience shift lag... Drive the car, if you like it buy it. If not buy something else. First time in my life I have read about shift lag and that in a manual? No man come on :D
 
I have a 2010 Cerato and still LOVE it.

The new Rio is another beaut and I had a good look at it when it was launched. The Rio Tec might have a lot of frills such as LEDs etc but underneath it is a complete class below the Cerato. The Cerato offers much more space, power, disks brakes all round compared to the rear drums on the Rio, 6 vs 2 airbags etc..

The only negative about the Cerato is that it seems there is a new model in the works - rumors say Q2 2013.

If you accelerate hard in the Cerato the ECU cuts power for a brief duration when changing gears to reduce torque shock to the transmission. Basically it feels like the car dies for a second between shifts.
I had the ECU firmware upgraded on my 2010 5-speed 2.0 Cerato and it made a huge difference in reducing the "lag" between gear shifts.

I'm still very happy with my 2.0 Cerato after 18 months.
Plenty of power, loads of space and so far very good service from Kia Fourways and Kia Centurion.
 
I have the Cerato 2.0 Koup auto 2011. Great car. Can't complaint at all. Good value for money. All I can suggest is - go and take a test drive, you will be surprised.

Yeah I also heard about it when I was in the market for a car, ended up taking the i20, the cerato was nice but was obviously more and I kind of prefer a hatch at this point
