Why is there no online fault reporting service for Telscum adsl?
Every time there's the slightest bit of weather my telephone service is down. I can't use the online fault reporting because the line is adsl? WTF?
How the **** can I phone when the telephone is out of service? At least the internet is working.

Plz someone, give me some advice.

This is the message I sent to the online help desk @ telkom.co.za
I will post the brilliant reply aswell:

Why is there no online fault reporting service for Telkom ADSL? In the past when I used the online fault reporting, I received an email saying I should contact telkom by telephone if there is a fault. Could you please explain to me how I can achieve this when the phone line is out of service?

Exactly what I said would happen:

Dear Sir/Madam
Unfortunately the line could not be reported due to EXCON WITH ADSL reporte at 10217/ 0800 375 375
Please contact us on 0514474748 if you have any further enquiries

F U C K YOU TELKOM!!!!!!!!!!!!

wtf? "due to EXCON WITH ADSL" <- what that mean?

looks like he stopped on the 31st of that month.. i wonder if he still has adsl

No, I'm not joking at all. I see on Hellkom website they encourage the use of a whole host of other broadband solutions besides Telkom (http://www.hellkom.co.za/local_broadband_comparison.php). Instead of whining about Telkom, why not use someone else?

Perhaps you should read his post first? He is complaining about his telephone service being down, and not being able to call Telkom - that implies his line is down, not an ISP product. And Telkom is the only provider of telephone line services.

Oh of course, my mistake. He must just hate Telkom for their line service but does actually love Telkom for their ADSL service. Must be the same for all those who whine about Telkom yet still use their services.

Silly People! Of COURSE you can log faults online at https://secure1.telkom.co.za/app/onlinefaultreporting/ and save the poor staff at Telskum a call and at the same time save yourself 30 minutes of cellphone airtime.

wait a minute.....

You gotta wonder what turned this powerhouse of technology into the Mickey Mouse Clubhouse it is today....

Twinsen - You cannot report ADSL faults online at that address - this is the explanation on that page:

To report a telephone fault, please complete this online form or phone 10212 toll free (all hours). On submitting this form online, a service representative will contact you to confirm that the fault has been logged (reference number) and to verify/acquire more details, if necessary.

Please note that this facility is only for normal telephone line faults (voice faults). Data line (non-voice) faults need to be reported to 10217 and 10214 . All ADSL faults must be reported to 0800 375 375. For internet faults click here.
Please note that this application works well on Microsoft Internet Explorer version 6.0 and Mozilla FireFox version 1.5.0.6

Is it just my imagination or has the adsl fault reporting at 0800375375 completely collapsed? We're used to the normal 30 minute wait on the line, but we've now been trying for a week to report a fault and have been holding on for up to 60 mins at a time.

Unfortunately (very unfortunately) - if you have an ADSL line, you must report any fault, be it a voice problem or an ADSL problem, to the ADSL "help" line on 0800375375. It could be worse. They could charge for those calls.

Well you do pay if all you have is a cellphone at home because your line is dead...

I see this is an OLD thread that came back, so info in it might no longer be accurate.

The last time I reported a fault, before Telkom's music started, a voice came up telling me that if I don't want to hold, I can report the fault at telkom.co.za or something like that. This was about 2 weeks ago. I did hold on and waited almost 90 minutes, sitting at a street corner phone booth. What a pleasant way to spend a Sunday afternoon.

Anyone else who also heard this? Anyone actually tried lately to report an ADSL fault via the web, despite the clause saying you can't?

As I've discovered, easy to log a fault, but not to track. All you get for status is 'fault logged'. I could be waiting for decades for someone to actually come out.
