Default Importing CDs: Amazon US or UK?

    Hey all

Anyone have experience with importing CDs from Amazon US vs UK? Amazon UK is slightly cheaper. I have had good experiences with Amazon US via Take2/Takealot. Wondering if I should try UK, then the saving could probably cover shipping.

    Much of a muchness?

    Thanks.

Use both: Amazon UK is more likely to have stock - and at a lower price - of CDs published in the UK/Europe.

They both have pretty much the same stuff, but the UK one wins for one simple reason: free shipping to SA on orders above £25. So if you're buying a few CD's, you'll save quite a bit of money.

That said, the US one does occasionaly have more variety, so you might find stuff there you don't on the UK one. At least that's how it works with books.

Edit: Also, you'd be really daft to use a 3rd party like take2 for ordering CD's from Amazon. I just buy from them directly. Why pay another middle-man?

The only time the Take2/alot importing service makes sense is for stuff you can't get delivered by Amazon directly. Books, CD's, Kindles etc can be delivered directly.

It seems that free shipping for orders over £25 has ended. Just checked with some stuff I had in my basket and they charge shipping fees now.

    +1 on the free shipping

just take vat and inspection fee into account, as that can add to the total cost.

Wow, I see now. That sucks. I just bought 3 books from them in mid-January and they were still shipped free.

Nope. No "super saver delivery" option. The site also no longer shows that "Free Shipping to South Africa" banner it used to.

Can anyone from SA order anything from Amazon.com these days? ... except for Kindles every damn thing I view shows the dreaded "We are not able to ship this item to your default shipping address" message!

Nope. You are still pretty much limited to DVD's, books and a few select items.

Damn, pity about the shipping. About 20 CDs comes to £100 shipping. Emailed them to see if they can reduce it...

Not sure about your "still" statement ... bought a pair of Sennheiser 555's from Amazon.com 3 year ago and a pair of Audio-Technica ATH-AD700's early last year. Neither of these products are available for shipment to SA anymore.

On a positive note at least the Kindle Touch (and it's official Kindle Cover ... Thank Zeus!) now ships internationally.
