For my 21st birthday I decided to move get myself a Mac. So I bought the latest macbook pro (17") and I haven't looked back once. I got an iPhone, just upgraded to a new one, bought an iPad, so I am fully caught in the Apple ecosystem.
The laptop is now a bit old and it is time for an upgrade, so I decided to buy a new PC. Going back to windows, just for a change of "scenery". I am also concidering buying a new tablet within this year, most likely android, for the same reason, just want something new.
Then I realised, that I am so deep into the mac ecosystem. All my contacts are synced to iCloud, so is my calendar. And I can only access it with some apple product. And I guess that is the new way to force consumers to stick with your brand. All the apps I bought, software, all of that, when I upgrade I need to buy it all again.
I am now in the process of going the google way. Google has everyhting in the cloud, and it is browser based, hence it will work on any platform. Moving all my contact, calendars and even documents to google. best of all is, it is free
But the question remain, is it a good idea to rely on one company to store all that details?
