Thread: iCloud Syncing

  1. #1

    Default iCloud Syncing

This is the first time I'm using iCloud and I seem to have stumbled onto a lil problem I just did and fresh install of snow leopard on my MBP but I did and export of my hole address book it had a total of 2556 contacts in which is correct I then installed lion again and ran all the updates. Then installed office and added my mail accounts to mail. But this time it popped up with the iCloud login which I then entered my Id and it registered.

Right now I import my backed up address book and bam all 2556 contacts are there.few hours later I log onto iCloud website go to contacts and see only 2434 contacts

Now what happened to the rest ?? I can't even figure out what didn't sync to the cloud. I'm thinking this hole iCloud simply sucks lucky I never added it onto my phone else I would have lost all those contacts.

so is there a way to get it all in sync the way my mail address book is?

I've done the refresh on iCloud still nothing.I have no groups or anything at all just the basic address book.

Help help help please😂 I can't hunt for ghosts again

    Default iCloud Syncing

Does ur phone have all your contacts? If so, set it to not sync to iCloud - then remove the contacts from your Mac.

Then try syncin your phone to the Mac and then select Merge if it asks you and then see what happens.

On this note, I lost/had my 4S stolen over the weekend and am now using a 3G. (The pain is indescribable) how can I get all my contacts from my address book onto my 3G?

    Hello All,

Apologies for the resurrection of this thread - but I have been struggling for a while to get this sorted out - and want to try and fix it once and for all, now that I also have a Mac to add to the loop...

I have tried a variety of things to fix the discrepancy, but cannot seem to make any headway, and am hoping someone here can provide a few suggestions.

I have 600 contacts on my iPhone.
My iCloud contacts group, that I access on the web - has about 35. They appear to be mostly new - so I obviously made the error of having everything set up incorrectly initially, which saw only the newest contacts get lifted to the Cloud.

The bulk of them iPhone contacts are in a Group on my iPhone, called Stellenbosch.

Correct me if I'm wrong - but it appears I need to find a way of getting the STB group "into" the iCloud group - in other words, I need to log on to iCloud.com, and import the 600 contacts into that (current) iCloud group of 35?

Once this has happened, when I then synch everything on my devices to the Cloud - all will then be updated with the 600 contacts?
Am I therefore correct in saying that until I get the iCloud group to be updated, no amount of synching is going to get those 600 contacts out of the STB group on my phone, onto my Mac and into the Cloud?

If so - I then have 2 questions:

1.) What setting on my phone do I need to change to ensure that new contacts (added after I eventually fix all of this), automatically update to the Cloud, as opposed to the STB group only?

2.) How do I update the Cloud contacts group?
Is there a manual way to do this? Exporting a vcf(?) file or something?
I've tried the suggestion above, of switching off the cloud, and then synching my phone contacts with the Mac's contacts - but only end up with 70-odd contacts, many duplicates - and no mention of a merge being offered...
In any event - I figure the above doesn't really solve anything, since I still would not have updated the cloud properly - and so this workaround (assuming I managed to get it to work properly) would only function provided I left the cloud off - which is not what I want to do...

I don't know if I'm maybe misunderstanding the underlying point of the cloud - so will appreciate any input!
