So, my motherboard decided that it felt like dying recently, and now I'm stuck in quite a pickle. Replacing the mobo means replacing the CPU, RAM and harddrives with it, seeing as my CPU was still dual-core and it's time to go to quad, my RAM was DDR2 and the two internal HDDs were still IDE. As you can see, I've pretty much got a choice between doing a decent upgrade, or getting an ancient mobo that still fits everything, but being forced into another total upgrade in a year or two.
So far, I've got this build from Wesley over at the NAG forums, but I'd like some more opinions and/or options if anyone wouldn't mind? Always a good idea to have a variety, even though this seems a really good build.
So, I'll be sticking with my 550w CPU, HD6870 and DVD Rom. The rest needs to be replaced. The total of this build comes down to R3629, which is a bit higher than I was bargaining for. Might take a while to scratch all the cash together. Would have preferred a build that's under R3000, but I don't want to compromise performance too much.
Anyone got any other suggestions, perhaps? I'm not quite so tech-savvy, so I can't really work out builds for myself.![]()
So, can anyone beat that?
I have a HDD and a screen. But quite low end ones. Busy using a LG Flatron 17" :P Budget is 10k and I can't over spend. Do i get my self the 670? or stick with the 660ti? I could get a cheap screen and a budget 500 gig hdd as well thats sata3?
Please comment and criticise the rig itself, maybe things are cheaper elsewhere but rebeltech is literally down the road from my houseHelp please

Hi peeps,
So with Esquire's special running at the moment, I figure it's as good a time as any to build up a new system. This will be used for some gaming, Photoshop/Lightroom and general surfing etc.
I've put the following together but looking for advise. As the Esquire special is only valid until tomorrow, I'd appreciate some quick responses...

Need some advice please...
Running out of PC storage and need to get a new hard drive.
Currently I'm running my PC off of my old 500gb SATA II drive. Not sure of it's other specs (Windows 7 gives it a rating of 5.9). Then I store all my stuff on my 2 year old WD 2TB SATA II.
Now I'm planning on getting the WD Green 2TB Sata III (64mb cache) - Should I change my set-up and boot from the new drive or keep it as is?
Please don't recommend a SSD - Can't afford it and need storage over speed. Thanks
You could create a 500GB partition on your new WD Caviar Green 2TB to boot from with the other 1.5 TB (less in reality when formatted) being used as storage along with the old 500GD SATA II HDD. It should improve your boot times by a bit. If you don't want all the hassle of re-installing your OS along with all your programs again then rather leave it as is.![]()
ASUS P8Z77-V PRO Z77 Motherboard: R2 820 @rampage
3570K: R2 267 @ Rampage
corsair ram:+-R600
GAINWARD Phantom GeForce GTX 670: R5 500+ (Asus Nvidia GeForce GTX670-DC2T goes for same price)
HDD: why 750GB? get 1tb minimum.
psu:the HX750 silver is about R1500 the gold rated is R100 more and the AX model is between R1700 and R2000 so I would rather recommend the AX and then the HX gold rated.
mouse: cyborg rat 7 or 9, or mamba 2012 depending on your preference, or go logitech g9.
keyboard: get mechanical with cherry switches. Coolermaster Triger maybe?
chassis: is up to you. take into consideration, environment and purpose.
Headphone:if you can afford it get some decent seinheisers with a decent sound card(asus). otherwise the cm storm Sirius headset is amazing.
also you might want to consider a ssd for this build.
sorry for loose formatting its late I'm tired.
Hey Duff, nice websiteJust a thing I noticed that in the performance build you put for a keyboard and mouse a microsoft wireless 800...now any gamer worth their salt is gonna get something in the razer/corsair/roccat/logitech range and also the microsoft range of higher end gaming peripherals (sidewinders etc). So yeah, think you might need to change that up buddy...
