Have you been to europe??? SA is cheap!

Guang is right, Food price in SA , is now getting too expensive in relation to income.

Food: I was shocked when I came back from Europe to SA, in some cases Europe is a lot cheaper than SA esp. out of major cities. South Africa is a joke, and especially with the fact that we're a MUCH poorer countries, food prices are ridiculous!

You can get an awesome 3 course meal in Paris for like 8 - 12 euros!

vodacom, cellc, mtn - dstv. Banking - big ripoff. New cars, bikes, houses.

Groceries are supposedly cheaper in Europe - and definitely a million times more choice. Really upsets me - we're a fruit growing country but we have no fruit - and little choice.

In the UK where I am currently petrol went up from 93p/ltr to 95p - about R9.50/ltr so petrol is still cheaper, but banks, car prices and most Hifi/tv equiptment is cheaper. I saw a new 28" Tv for 200 pounds - because they are all going digital here and no one wants them.

I'm trying hard to think of something in SA that's NOT a rip-off... nothing pops up! :(

Petrol is another BIG rip-off! Just look at the enormous profits made by the petrol companies to see the evidence!

Though how good is the public transport system? In the UK there are hundreds of other options available other than driving into work in the morning. Hence the petrol price as it stands

AFAIK SA banks charges 5 or 6 % from merchants when we use Master or Visa card to pay for purchase .

This charge is only 2.5 % in EU , and Europeans competition authority is already busy taking measures because this bank charge ultimately inflates the retails prices.

At the end of the day , consumer pays for everything.

We pay 5 % in SA , WE must CRY ...
