Rodgers on Borini:

"I think the supporters will love him. As I said, he's a goalscorer, but he's a multifunctional player who can play in a number of positions - and someone I believe has got great growth.

"He's one of the few young players in the full Italian squad. I'd anticipate that over the next two or three years he'll really progress and I'm sure do very well for Liverpool."

Borini made four first-team appearances for Chelsea, before firing six goals in 12 appearances at Swansea.

Rodgers believes the previous experience of English football will stand the 21-year-old in good stead for the challenges that await him at Anfield.

"I think the adaptation will be much easier," he said. "I believe he'll feel as though he's coming home because his formative years as a young player were here in Britain and the game in this country suits him.

"He's technically strong, he's a good finisher with both feet, he can play central or on the sides in a 4-3-3 up front, he's quick, and he's tactically very good.

"He is arguably the best physical player I've worked with in terms of his pace, power and fitness. Mentally, he's very strong. We've got a player who is on the up and someone who I think Liverpool will benefit from."

Rumours abound, Fulham will make cash offer plus Dempsey for Carrol. Dempsey doesn't really fit into the FSG model, but he had a cracker of a season last year.

Your kidding right? Being american he will prolly be the poster boy in the USA. With american owners u don't think he will fit in?
 
Newcastle have made a bid to sign Liverpool striker Andy Carroll on loan, with a view to a permanent move.
New Liverpool boss Brendan Rodgers said he could loan Carroll out, suggesting the 23-year-old would not be part of his Anfield plans.
And Newcastle want to bring back a player they sold to the Reds for £35m in January 2011.
West Ham co-owner David Gold has also said the Upton Park club would be interested in signing Carroll.
Carroll struggled with Liverpool until belatedly showing form and goals towards the end of last season.
He headed the winner for Liverpool against Blackburn, while also scoring against Everton in a FA Cup semi-final win and the 2-1 loss to Chelsea in the final.
He also scored for England at Euro 2012 in a win against Sweden, but he appears to have fallen out of favour at Anfield.
Rodgers signed striker Fabio Borini from Roma earlier this week in his first signing since taking over as Liverpool manager.
He is also planning contract talks to keep Uruguayan forward Luis Suarez at Anfield but he has been less committal when talking about Carroll's future.
Newcastle's approach may give Carroll cause for thought considering the success he enjoyed at his hometown club.
He helped the Magpies back into the Premier League with 17 league goals in the 2009-10 Championship season.
Carroll continued his promising form in the top-flight in the following campaign and made his senior England debut under Fabio Capello in a 2-1 defeat at Wembley by France.
He scored 11 times in 19 league games before becoming the most expensive British player when ex-Liverpool manager Kenny Dalglish took him to Anfield.

I don't know why we need an all or nothing approach. Can't we just find a striker that isn't super expensive that isn't a injury disaster waiting to happen.
 
If this article is accurate then the administrators are idiots. Not even a chance? Can understand why his so angry...disappointed by rogers attitude to be honest.

Total football my butt. carroll had a good end of the season. Work rate for england was good. At 23 has potential.

I'm not his biggest fan but he deserved a chance at least. I don't care for this way of operating.

Well, it is a paper biased toward Newcastle Utd so they might just be a tad blinkered when it comes to their former pony-tailed prodigy...

However truth be told the manager has been conspicuously quiet about all the stories and rumours going about which is not really inspiring. Only official news is that loan offer from NUFC was rejected rather swiftly, either because the terms weren't good enough or because they only want to sell rather than loan. Or perhaps that they don't plan to sell yet and it might just be a way to see if Carroll really has the desire to stay and fight for this place in the new manager's system. The only actual statement on record from Rodgers about Andy was the following....I just hope he proves true to his word and actually "assess" Carroll instead of just selling him off while the dude is still on holiday...that would be rather deceitful and jeopardise his integrity.

Rodgers said: "Andy's always going to be linked with clubs, whether he was here or not. I have spoken to him on his holidays and he knows exactly where he stands.

"Andy's a player I want to assess and speak with. We've already had a good chat on where we're at."

Haha, I'm pretty sure Newcastle would ask it for it but the other way around. Cisse for Carroll + cash would make sense to them and Liverpool. Would never happen though.

If Liverpool even got just Tiote for Carroll it would be a good deal. Tiote is mighty talented, plus there is a fair amount of interest from other clubs.

I think the only deal would probably a pure cash one though, as Newcastle don't really need to lay off any of their players and Carroll would already be surplus to their requirements.
