What I often do is look at these sort of scripts and then take parts of them/rewrite them to work for me ...

But if I can do it myself I prefer to - that way I know what is going on in the code (have you ever tried to figure out why an extention for Joomla isn't working?)

I have just started a new site: http://www.experts-exchange.co.za. Its meant to be a south african community. I know there are lots of these types, but I specifically wanted a south african forum that didnt charge you any money.
