Just got this email from Web Africa

Hi xxxxxxx xxxxxxx,

We’re upgrading your ADSL!

We’re giving you a better ADSL package and even more value for money.
YOU WERE ON: Titan Data 1; 15 Gigs; R199pm
YOU ARE NOW ON: Home ADSL; 25 Gigs; R199pm

Your ADSL will be automatically upgraded on 18 May 2012. Any package changes will be reflected in your June invoice.

There may be cheaper packages out there, but I like their service...woot!

:D
Glad you're happy with the upgrade! We did this for all our customers on our older packages.

What was the change with regards to the old Titan 25 gigs?

HI Jeff/Guys

I got the same email this morning telling me my Titan 3 has been "Upgraded".
Interesting term when the cost and cap is exactly the same. Anyway why not a couple of days notice either, surely that is not to much to ask?
Does it have to do with the issues myself and other titan customers experienced in the last 2 weeks?

But heres my real concern.
I ALWAYS ALWAYS got lower latencies to Europe for gaming on the titan packages, even compared to the 1gig unshaped account I tested for 1 month from WA. Tonight when I get home I will test it and lets all hope that my latencies have not got higher then I wont be such a happy camper afterall.
The guys on the WA calldesk was not convincing - saying I can expect "reasonable" latencies but did not commit to it being the same

Later

I don't think "Free ADSL" was the right messaging going out on this mailer. While a lot of customers on our olders packages did benefit with a cheaper price and more data. Only a few customers (mainly the Titan guys) would just have a product name change but have the same data allocation.

We've already taken notes the kind of messaging will be looked at better with future mails.

I also want to stress that no network changes have taken place because of the product move. All the accounts where and are still on a Silver bandwidth priority. http://kb.webafrica.co.za/article/A...vity/ADSL/Bandwidth-Priority-Profiles.html#H3

OK good news, the latency to the EU based servers that I always speedtest against remained the same - 160-180milliseconds range

Happyness @WA, thanks

Enjoy the upgrades guys, and thanks for your support :)

Home ADSL 50Gb costs R399, so 25Gb is half in price and value.

Pardon my ignorance, but why would you get this vs MWeb's uncapped @ same price? This really is a question, I am not trying to upset anyone - I would really like to know the advantages...

None that I can see

Faster and full line speeds :)

As someone who has a 6 meg capped account with WA and a 1 meg uncapped account with MWeb, I would only agree with this statement when it comes to downloads, and that is to be expected as my WA account is 6 times faster. Oh, this would only be true after hours, as during office hours my WA account would be really slow for downloads most of the time.

For browsing my MWeb account is way superior and was a major reason for getting the additional account. During office hours, my downloads are still good, just not full speed.

If I was looking to spend the same amount, I would totally go uncapped with MWeb.
