Cell C receiving R1.5 billion in equity injection

This can only be good for cellc.

I hope they sort out their EDGE issues in the cape. Saves quite a bit of battery using EDGE as opposed to 3G.
 
So Cell C is been bailed out AGAIN by its shareholder. Why is this a good thing? They're ten years old now, and it's time they stood on their own two feet. All this shows is that they spend like the big boys, but earn revenue like a startup. With more normal shareholders (i.e. not the kind with diverse interests in an oil rich country, so they don't need profits from their telecoms investments), they would have either been bankrupt or sold already. I guess the good news is that R1.5bn is a small price to pay for AKC's ego.

Say what you want. AKC knows how to run a successful company. It will be interesting to see how he invests this money.
 
What worries me is they put up abnormal towers in stupid places. They over plan. Hope they are going to make it.
 
my advice to Cell C and Mr Knott-Craig is, marketing, marketing and more marketing. However network quality is very essential. Please consider visibility in sport even if its brief, that wont harm your company.

An operator like AKC would never have joined if there wasn't going to be significant financial backing to implement his initiatives
Can you imagine going into battle with MTN and Vodacom without it?!
Like going into a gunfight with 2 bananas
 
Just means that the shareholders are shelving any ideas of selling Cell C and focus on getting the company to become more profitable.
 
Call it a bail-out or injection, the one thing that matters the most is they will have capital to challenge the "big boys" who care nothing about the customer's pocket. Vodacom/MTN will most probably stay highly profitable because the crowd they attract doesn't care that much about paying too much.

I live in one of those stupid places. What I figure is: Why bother take a fight to an area that is already saturated with providers with all types of tech, where users are no longer interested in old tech like 3G when there's LTE, FTTx and uncapped solutions when there are areas who have been stuck to dial-up and EDGE, who crave even the paltry 1.8Mbps? I say well done to Cell C for actually trying to bridge the digital divide rather than wasting more coverage to people who couldn't care less but moan about this or that. One of the biggest misconceptions people in the suburbs have about rural folk is that they are dead-broke. A lot of rural households (there are degrees of rural/poor, just as there are middle class and elite/super rich) have computers, laptops to be more precise and guess what they buy next after buying the laptop/pc? A 3G dongle, usually Vodacom because they believe it's the best network (simply because it had better voice coverage a decade ago!) and they actually use the internet, even if it's sparingly (they still haven't discovered streaming porn! Neither have I!!!)

Moral of the story: Connecting people in obscure places is good for the country, and Cell C's business because they are tapping into an unserviced populace.

So what is Marketing, can you eat it? Network Quality and price is what we want, marketing is not going to download my series for me.
