Any one know about this WASP or had a similar experience
So basically my wife called me today to complain that her back up phone (she has 2) is missing about R25 worth of airtime already (its a top up 100 and airtime was loaded on 21 may) so i called MTN and they advised she was subscribed to service costing R5 day by SMSNET I asked them to stop the service and got contact details for SMSNET. called them and asked them to stop the service which they did (received the SMS confirming), i queried how could I be subscribed she said only by their mobi site, I insisted we never did and requested my airtime be credited which they refused. now trust me my wife wouldn't subscribe to anything or go on any sites (besides Face book) with that phone. no we never received any SMS or anything besides the one confirming cancellation today.

I logged a complaint with WASPA hopefully something will come of it.

But just wondering if anyone else experienced anything like this with SMSNET-SA

Probably a bunch of scammers, but to give them a potential benefit of the doubt, if their mobi site allows you to enter your cell number, someone might have punched their one in wrongly and is now wondering where their service is :)

Lol, if anybody could just punch random numbers in on their site and not require authentication for billing, I doubt the company would still be open for business. Imagine, subscribe somebody that you really don't like to 100 different services :D

Entirely possible...or at least it was until recently...

They usually send an sms to your phone to which you have to reply to subscribe. So usually not possible to subscribe just anyone, usually.

update:
so waspa contacted me to say that smsnetsa wont refund me as per their records I did subscribe and they sent me a screen shot with date time etc, but the phone model on there is a Nokia c1-01 which is not the phone we use.

so told waspa that wonder if i have an actual case or should i kiss my airtime goodbye?

ask them to formalise the complaint, pointing out that you do not use that model - does not cost you anything except a little time to push it through to a formal complaint and stand firm about the refund

Seems mtn and cellc have a hand in this. I had bourgiorno or some company like that taking away R5 from cellphone recently. I only realised this after 1 full month. They claimed i subscribed thru internet. I asked CellC why they gave a open cheque to these guys. They could not give straight answer.

This robbery by Mtn and Cellc. How can they give any company access to bill and get paid without verification. They need to get their act together, these funny companies are holding an open cheque. They know 75% of complainants will ask to be unsubscribed but not refund. Those who want refund wont ask for interest. They should be penalised. Mtn and cellc must be penalised for robbing unsuspecting people. Iam looking for a way to bring all these guys to justice.

This is not the only company where this has happened.

Personally, I feel the time has come to stop these type of subscriptions alone. I think they should be coupled with a written application form as well before membership is approved or funds deducted.

least MTN could do was put in place a 2 step sms verification system, so you are covered if these companies try and rip you off, or some sites that allows you to just unch in a phone number like soem one above mentioned or hell even if some kid messes with your phone

Not sure but you can call them on this number - 012 342 8001 - not sure if its still correct but that's where i called them

Your Sp should be able to stop the deductions as well

Also, I think we should bring attention to the MTN method of blocking content charges. Hell, lemme add that to my signature. For the record, USSD=*141*5# and choose the option "Content Billing" and block it.
