Thread: What to do?

  1. #1

    Default What to do?

My Cell C 5GB/mo deal is coming to an end, and I'm not paying R4500 for 60GB (5GB per month) data this time around.

Is MTN still running that R189 for 2GB data deal? Because I might consider that - only thing is the phone I used as a modem by tethering needs a new battery, and it's an old phone so I don't know where I'll get one, unless I just pop an MTN sim in the modem I have (ZTE MF 668). VC's data bundles are too expensive for my taste. I've seen what my brother pays for bundles.

Cell C has that R1299 for 2GB per month, which would actually work out cheaper than MTN's 2GB for R189. I think in bundles Cell C's is just over R100 a month. Even though they did burn me recently, I don't really see any better alternative right now. I was all set for going with 8ta and their 3 Gigs Big or the 60+60 deal, but there's no coverage in my area it turns out.

Does Virgin have anything worthwhile? Doubt it. Neotel doesn't do 3G right? That's what my brother said.

8ta would be the best bet I think. They have good 10gigs deals and 2gig deals. Depends what you need.

It's like I said though. No coverage with 8ta yet, unfortunately. So I'm down to MTN's 2GB for R189 or Cell C's R1299 prepaid deal it looks like.

I went with Vodacom 2+2GB for 150/month. The 2GB at night is great for big emails and automatic updates. Works out almost like my 5GB from CellC was. It just needs more preplanning.

You only need 8ta coverage for that 10gigs package. Don't think you need it for their 2gig one. They roam on mtn. Just double check that. Should be right though.

Damn, wish I'd read that earlier. I all ready signed up with Cell C for that R1299 deal. But I mean, hey, I can still go with 8ta's 3 gigs big then and I've effectively got 5 GB per month for a lot cheaper than buying a Cell C 5GB bundle (R258 p/m vs R450). And 3 gigs big is valid for 60 days, isn't it?

8ta's 5 GB bundle is R666. Quite steep.

Edit: By the way, I contacted the 8ta rep here on mybb, and he or she says that the 3 Gigs Big promo only works on the 8ta network.
