Which should I choose?
(if I can't get a Samsung SIII)
HTC One X. The physical device is brilliant, and Android is brilliant. I was using a friends iPhone4s the other day, it's a nice phone but definitely not something that I would pick over the other phones on the market at the moment.
I'm also in favor of the HTC one X, but if you can get the phone anywhere in SA is another matter... and then when it's so hard to just get the phone, imagine how hard it's going to be to get support on it.
On saturday I was at Vodaworld and there was an absolute flood of Samsung S3 all over the place. You could litteraly not go anywhere without seeing something about the Samsung. I then went over to the HTC shop to see the One X... the HTC super phone that is "current king of Android" .. they should be putting up a good show, right? Well, there was not a single person in the shop except a very bored looking sales lady. she said good luck trying to get that phone. They did not have even a demo of it... not even a fake one. In fact they had maybe three demo phones in the whole shop that were all like 2 years old. I'm sorry but that left SUCH a bad impression on me that I left immediately and was 100% completely put of any further thoughts of HTC. I currently have the HTC Desire and its an awesome phone even at two years old it's still keeping up and I love it, but I am sorry HTC, if this is how much effort you put into marketing your devices in SA then I am not interested!
Samsung S3 it will be for me thank you very much HTC you helped me make up my mind.
Depends. Do you want a basic phone that can make calls, play games, costs a lot and needs crappy software on your PC to work properly, or a very powerful piece of the latest technology on offer, that actually just works?
If the former, get the iPhone, if you want a proper smartphone get the htc.
Although I must agree with Knersus above, I was at Voda(com)world last week too (despite my dislike of the place) and there was almost no sign of the One X. No posters, no ads, and only the dummy phone (and the very disinterested dummy behind the counter) in the shop. The place was swarming with Galaxy S3 posters, every shop had at least one actual S3 you could play with (the Samsung shop had about 10 of them), kids with Samsung t-shirts were also walking around with phones for people to try, flyers were handed out, everything. None of that influenced my decision apart from having the opportunity to try the phone out. That's what did it for me. The htc launched globally a good while before the Samsung and they couldn't even be arsed to have a single one to try out. That leads me to believe they're not really serious about selling the phone in SA and thus finding accessories or support for it will be near impossible. After having experienced that with the Motorola RAZR (which is a brilliant phone, but I had to wait 1.5 months for a pouch from overseas because Motorola doesn't give a shyte about having an SA presence) I decided that if phone companies don't want my money, why should I go out of my way?
If that doesn't bother you, get the One X, I'm sure it's a great phone, apart from not having an SD card slot. If it does bother you, get a Galaxy S3.

I have the iPhone 4, and when held next to my brother HTC One X it looks like a joke...
Im over Apple and their one-way thinking. Android will be my next device. Got the SO a HTC Desire S and Im so impressed with Android, will def go with them in future...

Android FTW. Dnt let the iPhone hype fool you
S3
Every minute I stay in this room, I get weaker, and every minute Charlie squats in the bush, he gets stronger
One X is great, only drawback is no removable battery and no sd slot. Other than that, it's on par, perhaps even slightly better than the S3. iPhone meh!
Add Solid Explorer and you have access to Dropbox, Google Drive, Box and Skydrive so yeah with cloud computing who cares about SD cards? all you need is enough space for the apps to work
I would second HTC One X, esp seeing that they getting Jelly Bean and Google Now that kicks Siri's butt (iPhone 4S main selling feature)![]()
.... and thanks for all the fish.
LOL! You thought it a joke by simply looking at the devices side by side. If there's one thing Apple do better than anyone else is the phone design. The One X is a piece of black plastic compared to the 4. The One X probably has other things going for it but in looks it doesn't touch the Apple. I see the One X comes with Beats audio (which looks nice on paper but doesn't sound like Beats).

The One X is indeed a piece of plastic.... polycarbonate plastic that is, it will survive many drops that can shatter an iPhone4/4S 1st time
Treat yourself to the One X, excellent smartphone, HTC did an outstanding job with it, although, personally, i hate the quad-core chip they used in it, the execution has been good.
