Thread: Disk error on Wii

    Default Disk error on Wii

Hi there and thanx for the help.

It has been almost 12 months since we have played on our Wii. One of the kids wanted to play a game this afternoon, and got this error message:
"An error has occurred. Press the Eject button and remove the disc, then turn the Wii console off and refer to the Wii Operations Manual for help Troubleshooting."
I have found this error to be very common amongst Wii users. Solutions vary from power off, clean disk and try again to replace the laser reader.
Has anyone here suffer from the same same and fixed it? Please advise to what the solution can be.

    Regards

    Hi Deon.

If your Wii is an earlier model, it would have trouble playing dual-layer discs.
Basically the laser wont read the disc because of dust or dirt on the disc, or in the disc slot.
My first Wii did this and i managed to get away with just a clean.
Did you try others disc on the Wii, and see if those play?
If not then im afraid your Wii's laser has packed up.
You could then go to Cash Crusaders and get a second hand console for R599-799 or place a wanted ad for a console only.

    Kind regards Demon Angel.

You will need to replace the wii's laser. It's fairly is simple to do if your handy. You just need a tri wing screwdriver. There are loads of sites that sell new wii lasers.

Thanx to the both of you for valuable replies. I can confirm that we have tried it with all our Wii games and all cause the same error. From the last reply I take that the lasers are available in SA?

    Best Regards, Deon.

The Wii WONT play backups off an external without a working DVD drive.
Only a Wii Sunkey mod chip could be soldered onto a broken wii to bypass the DVD check.
I learnt that the hard way.

    Too expensive.

    @Deon, try sending Maestro-za a private message.
He is our our console gaming expert, or else you will have to look at Amazon or Ebay for the laser and tri-wing screwdriver(might be pricey with shipping).

The triwing screw drivers are a ripoff locally - I got mine from ebay. A lot of the chinese suppliers are doing free shipping now. There are loads over playes on ebay selling lasers, or you can try divineo.cn

    Hi all,

Our Wii started showing the same symptoms. First only with one disk that used to work perfectly, but lately its with all disks.

The screwdrivers are rather cheap if bought from fleamarkets....
