Vodacom today cut all Cell C's Interlinks to it's network, because Vodacom believe that is what was causing the congestion on there network. But Vodacom failed to inform Cell C that they were cutting the interlinks! to there network. That just shows Vodacom think they can just do as they please. It was not Cell C's interlinks that is causing these error's because I have friends on Vodacom who still can't call or be called.

Just think about something for 2 sec's 20 millions subscribers on 5700 base stations which are over 10 years old (not all but) what do you think the outcome will be?

I don't see any official response from cellc after Vodacom's press release, not even on their website. All I see on www.cellc.co.za is that the very first link that anyone browsing their site will see is "Mobile Number portability". I smell a rat.... and it stinks of sabotage!! Vodacom would never release that kind of statement unless they had proof. :( :( :(

Whatever man, I dont care what they havto do to fix it, but it not working is unacceptable, just get it fixed what I say regardless of 3rd party injuries.

If anyone knows exactly whats going on (or works for vodacom/cell c and knows whats cutting) please drop a mail to [email protected].. seems a bit strange that an entire user base of a few million was cut off without prior warning? Why all of a sudden? This whole issue is very much in the public interest.. Cell C has had their reputation knocked a bit here.

I cannot phone my friends daughter on Vodacom and I have a message to phone her urgently. It could be very serious as she's going through a rough patch. This is distressing ....

Cell-C was not given a notice, their interconnect link was cut with immediate effect. Also the fact that they used the word "appear" indicates that they themselves are still not exactly sure what the problem is. While cutting off the Cell-C link may have remedied the situation to a large extent, it still hasn't solved the problem 100% as there are still Vodacom subscribers who are unreachable and unable to use their phones. So to correct your statement that Vodacom would never issue a press release without proof - yes they would. They are known for their lies.

Was there any proof that their HSDPA was the cheapest in the world and that it was faster than ADSL? No, but they went ahead and advertised it as such anyway.

Don't you have a landline ???.

I have, but no phone ... SMS still working luckily.

dualmeister, the network definitely came up at about 15:50 today. If you're still battling try rebooting your phone to force a location update. If that still does not work, it might be something else, so please report to 111.

Thank you, just what i was going to say! But Cell C was never given notification from vodacom that they were going to cut the interlinks to cell c, when i found out i reported this to management they were shocked as Vodacom told cell c that they think they have found the problem and are sorting it out. If Cell C was the problem why then did vodacom not inform Cell C? Also not all vodacom's customers are able to use there phone at this very moment there are still people battling with vodacom, if it was Cell C and now Vodacom is not connected in anyway to cell c then why are there so many Vodacom customer's that still have a problem? My sister is on MTN and when she try's to call her boyfriend who is on vodacom she gets his voicemail, or a message "the number you have dial does not exist" we just tried it about 10 mins ago. and his phone is on he can't call out either. the error he gets is "network congestion" (oh and she phoned him on the landline that is how i know) And V3G please don't tell me to switch the phone off then on or put the sim in another handset because he has tried everything the only number he can get through to is 111 and they say "there is a problem he must just wait"

I have a friend who works for vodacom. I dont know what happened exactly but cellc released a press statement that vodacom was talking crap.

I emailed my friend on the day it happened to rip him off, and he told me that the vodacom HLR (Home location record ) went down.

I dont know exactly what happened but i feel that even if incorrect data was sent by cellc, surely a decent software architecture can chuck out data that is invalid? I mean invalid data gets received all the time.

I dont think it was wise of vodacom to blame cellc for this because from my point of view, there just blaming the smaller company and trying to find a scapegoat for something.

This is just the way it looks to me i donno the whole story, for all i know cellc may have screwed up.
