I'm stoked about the new phone app. It's always bugged me that I can't divert calls and have to let them ring till it diverts to voicemail.

As unexciting as it is, Apple has also re-designed the phone app with iOS 6. One of the longest running functions in iOS it was getting fairly tired compared to a lot of the competition. So what now? Well incoming calls can now be dodged with an auto reply message via one swipe, as well as a swipe up to get a reminder about it later.

Do Not Disturb also looks cool:
A OS X Mountain Lion style "do not disturb" button will stop things like notifications lighting up the screen or making noises in the middle of the night. It is also possible to screen calls so people can be avoided. If someone keeps on calling however, you can tell the phone app to notify you.

I got my first Apple product this year (iPhone 4S) and really like it. To be honest though I'm not impressed with this update, it's nothing really new or applicable to me.

I love how they have a great big conference to sell some really crappy features that dont make a difference to anyone.

The apple peeps don't really pay attention to other devices, so they wouldn't know.

If someone points it out to them, then they'll say tha the other device copied apple.

    You should know by now.

My Erikson I had back in 1998 had these features.
Also had voice recognition (which apple recently invented).

Question, when did it become a contest to see who could get which feature out 1st?

Apple knows its customers pretty well. The so called haters would not buy anyway.
They focus on simple and useful. Being 1st without these things is a waste of time.

Fr me I don't get the 'haters' on both sides. Don't they realize just how irrelevant they are?
They don't influence markets. They don't contribute.
What is particularly baffling to me is the joy the haters get from e other sides failure. Why?

Surely we should all want the same thing?
We should want MS, apple, google, and bb to constantly raise the bar such that they all keep investing to make every ecosystem better than the previous one?

Now who can argue with the above paragraph?

When you say "haters" do you mean "realists"?

Again you are not arguing with the point I am making.
You are simply taking the viewthat you are in the 'right' camp and the rest are hten by default in the wrong camp.
If thats the argument, you could just add it to your greeting at the bottom of all email and posts and not bother.

You will notice I condemn all haters, including those that shoot at any Google announcement from the Apple camp.

You're assuming I am a hater, and everyone else.

Now that is very wrong of you - deal with that so long.

Maybe I am assuming you are a 'hater'. Apologies if you are not.
I certainly dont think that everyone is. My main comment was a general argument against 'hater' type thinking

    What identifies a hater?
    a) Loyalty is not a hater trait. Nothing wrong with that. Choosing an ecosystem that works for one and sticking with it through ups and downs is not dumb because one invests in an eco system. Haters usually criticise this loyalty unless its loyalty to their own ecosystem.
    b) Dissing the other technologies attempts. We all know what Apple, Google and M/S get dissed for.
    c) The belief that their ecosystem rules no matter what. I can make equally powerful arguments that Apple and Google rule the handset O/S. All depends on measures.

    Multiple SMS delete?
    more icons in folders?
    more Bluetooth compatibility.

Such basic features still not implemented. I hope these are part of the "over 200" new features and improvements.

I think most of us can spot flaws in products.

Those of us who don't wish to spot flaws in those products and blindly defend them for some reason are the ones who are labelled fanboys.
And its ok to make fun of them.

Those of us who only post about flaws and nothing else are the ones we label haters and it's okay to ignore them as they are no longer objective.
