How not to blow R102 million

Simply appalling & disgusting.

Why do people still bother with the DoC? They are useless!

1 minor thing: the 102 mil price tag isn't what the DoC spent it is what was spent in total by different role players and participants with the local operators being quite a big contributor to the bill.

The point being that the DoC couldn't put the money to the better use simply because it wasn't the determiner of the money spend. The bottom line is that big money and big flash was put together by various stakeholders to create a space where influence is open for sale. How do all of the stakeholders outsider of government (who just access the piggy bank)? Well they milk the funds out of operations either not re-investing or charging consumers more. At the end of the day The country has been set back because a culture exists of improper influence being exerted in the ICT sector. If it was simply talk shop after talk shop without anything being done we'd simply have a benign industry but it isn't the successive talk shops and grand announcements represent successive opportunities being taken to purchase influence.

No way in hell the conference cost 25+ million per day.

I do believe there are bank robbers (w/ explosives) out there that are more discreet than these guys.

Mngqibisa was a "second signatory" to her company bank account and that he had "access to the account until the conclusion of the [ICT Indaba]
[...]
"It was clear most of the payments would have to be effected by him, so I entrusted this responsibility to him to ensure ... suppliers can be paid timeously".
In more sane corners of the business world it takes 2 signatures to release large payments... I think its covered in chapter 1 of Business 101.

Cant say I'm massively surprised though. Same ****, different day.

Didn't they plan a couple of these farces though?

the government wasted millions on an indaba! shock! horror! gasp!

come on guys, did we really expect better from them? be honest now, if you didn't get to eat caviar and sharkfin soup off a model and didn't get a giftbag containing a rolex, audi, first class tickets to anywhere and a get-out-jail-free card, would you go to a department of miscommunication indaba and listen to them um and ahh about things nobody cares about and make non-dead lines?

i wouldn't go listen to dina pule without being compensated for time wasted, even if i was being sent there by my boss.

Not to mention that if you did build that wifi network given as an example it would eventually pay for itself thereby recouping your money, and giving you an income stream allowing you to throw your endless pointless money siphoning, sir-leech-alot, indaba's.

Its because of sh-t like this, our kids continue to produce crap results.

I know that the DoC wasn't the sole spender of the money in this little fiasco, but its complete bollocks that we continue waste money that could be put to considerably better use educating the youth or providing services to the country...

really am over these *********s. Please people of South Africa fight back with your votes and don't vote for the ANC!!!!

funny - wonder what you get for R15million? your MD gets to make a presentation talking about how Government should partner with the mobile networks to bring affordable broadband to SA (right) and what else?

For a piggy trough event, it was exactly how R102M should be spent, right down to partners helping themselves.

I think we are all missing the point here that Dina Pule was involved in unethical, immoral and perhaps illegal behaviour.

f***ck me.....:wtf: this is why ZA will remain 3rd world country...and probably degrade to "4th" world one day....Imagine what 1000 schools can do with 20 state of the art computers...

Why would they use that money for Wifi project when they can put the project out to tender and receive some lucrative money under the table??
