    Default Question about Oppi 2012

    Hi there
This will be my first year going to Oppi, I'm taking a cousin there that is visiting from overseas and has always wanted to see Seether live, so his trip worked out quite well lol
    My questions is this:
Do I just rock up with my own tent and camp wherever or is the only place where you can stay at Oppi that Kreef hotel ?
Can I bring my own booze?

    An Oppi virgin, aaaaaaaaah sweet!!!!

    First ur questions:-

Yup bring ur own tent find a spot and off you go, "Can I bring my own booze?", simply answer is yes and lots of it...

Now a few thing you need to know and take with:-

    1. You will be filthy and covered in dust, there is no way around this so if u can't handle it don't go. There are showers but a true Koppi experience is never knowing where these are. Take 100-200 wetwipes to clean urself up and 4 of those 5l water bottles each, you can never take too much water.
    2. Will be better to go in a large a group as possible, 20+ is usually the best bet so u can all camp together, kuier together and carpool together.
    3. Take some 2l coke bottles so u can pre-mix ur drinks for around the stages cos no glass is allowed inside the stage area.
    4. Take warm clothes, gets f-ing cold at night along with a lekker sleeeping bag.

    Any other questions lemme no!!!!

EDIT: also going for one band is like pitching up at a buffet and only taking carrots, to do oppi properly once they finalise the schedule print it out and make a plan as to which bands you want to see and stick to it as best you can... There are 7 stages in operation this year, so make sure you are where u need to be.

    Awesome thanks,
Im very keen on going, just bought the tickets
I havent done an Oppi (have heard great things about it) before but did go to Woodstock 2003, 2004 and 2005.
Personally I'm not going for one band, there are many bands that have been confirmed that I want to see for the first time and again

This one time at Oppi, I was sooo sober that I didn't pass out or throw-up anywhere.

takes lots of water, and wet wipe, I used to wake up every morning at 5am and just took a shower, but there is a lot of truth in the dust part!

One more question, are there braai areas everywhere where you set up camp, or a designated area for it ?

Nope you just braai at your own camp. Take your own grid + utensils. I've found that if you braai you waste a lot of time at the camp (granted this can also be the best things about oppi), i usually just budget +-R200 bucks for food so you dont have to waste time constantly cooking & cleaning, making a fire, make sure it won't rage out of control etc. They have standard festival food. Curry, potijie, burgers, vetkoek etc.

Me and a mate booked kreef again this year. It is the ultimate way to do festivals

As whats been said, take the following:
    Mountains of booze,
    wet wipes,
    water,
    camping equipment,
lekker sleeping bag as its flippen cold at night,
    drugs (if thats your thing),
balaclava if you can - saves your nose & lungs from the dust,
A way to locate your camp site when you decide to wander back at night. You can get lost for hours,
strong legs as your will be walking and dancing a lot!

I stayed at Kreef on my girlfriend's first trip to Splashy. They were quite cool, but I prefer having a big camp with lots of mates.
