Thread: Huawei S7 Slim OTG USB cable

  1. #1

Default Huawei S7 Slim OTG USB cable

So, after a long while I finally decided to make me one, and I must say I should have done it very long ago.

    Here is the instructions:
    http://www.androidtablets.net/forum/...-memory-5.html

You will need this app to mount flash drives:
    http://android.gval.biz/
    http://android.gval.biz/download/Q5_...ry_Manager.apk

I have tried a USB mouse, keyboard and flash drive. The mouse is a bit buggy, the keyboard works perfectly and the flash drive also works 100%.

Be sure to apply this fix to get the USB host mode going on the S7 Slim:

    Here is the cable finished:

The reason for the tape is that there is a minute piece of wire sticking out, I'm miffed that I did not get it properly sealed before applying the putty.

The last post is a script you can run that fixes a few bugs with the S7 Slim.
    * G-sensore fix, fixing the sensors of the tablet
    * Enabling USB host mode on the tablet, and a few other fixes.
[[NB]]DO NOT APPLY THE BOOT IMAGE[[NB]]

You can Google USB host for S7 Slim and there should be other ways to do this as well, this is just the easiest. In windows you can just download and run the script, choose the options you want patched and presto.

Around 10-15 minutes? The longest was to cut away the housing of the micro-b cable, you have to take it slow and use a very sharp utility knife. The soldering is a couple of seconds if you are used to soldering (having a set of helping-hands makes it a breeze).

Buying the cables is going to cost a bit, what makes it cheap is if there is already waste cable laying around. I'll get a price on cables and post here what it will cost to make it and then you can compare it to buying the factory made thing from Ebay.

Give me a while and I'll post the prices here tonight.

No. On mini/micro plugs on the phone/tablet end, you need to short pins 4 & 5. On other plugs you have a problem. I ended up buying one off BoB. I wish MyWorld had started his experiments earlier.

Okay, just got back from the PC shop and was I surprised!

I looked at the cables, saw it would be way too expensive and chatted to a friend there.

"Show me the connection you are looking for."

He runs behind the counter and presents me with this:

I was sceptical at first, but bought is anyway, much easier to mod if I need to.
Plugged it in, and PRESTO! It actually works! Picked up the flash drive straight away and the USB keyboard also works on this!

So, head on over to your nearest PC shop and show them that picture, ask them to get you one!

    EDIT:
The shop here still have a bunch of these, PM me if you want one and then we can arrange something.
