Thread: PS3 3D Blu-Ray

    Default PS3 3D Blu-Ray

    Hello,

    I read somewhere that the PS3 supports 3D Blu-Ray..

Anyone tried this? Is it limited to 3D BluRay discs only - or can you play 3D video files too?

    I don't have a PS3- so if this is a silly question - I'm sorry

I've got a PS3 but have never tried a 3D movie on it. There are many games that are 3D on the PS3 so movies should definitely work.

    thanks for the replies

So basically if i download some 3D Blu Ray video (.mkv or something) and play it through a PS3 to a 3D TV - all should be fine?
Can the PS3 read NTFS drives?

Ps3 only reads fat32 file systems. Your best bet may be to rather stream through Ps3 media server using a pc

Yep, increasingly Cinavia will not allow files to be played in later firmware versions.

I am also interested in this. It said that 3D playback was implemented in firmware 3.55. So all the PS3's should have this capability. Don't have a 3D tv so won't know. Was looking at that sammy 40" for 6999. I just wanted to know - will I also be able to do that two people looking at the same tv but seeing a different picture thing that that Sony combo could do - or is this something else and not really the 3D capability?

Same basic mechanics, but I think different HDMI initiation which needs to be supported.

Besides the Sony 24" screen only other TVs I know of supporting dual player are the higher end 2012 LG LM LED models.

PS3 does not support NTFS or .mkv files with official firmware.

And only the Fat models (god I wish people would stop saying "phat") support hacked firmware. So my Slim can never run all the awesome stuff.

Slim ones can support custom firmware provided they have an early enough firmware. Did my mates one and it ran better than my "fat" one.

Ok I should have said, my version and pretty much all recent ones don't support it. I think it's the first slim consoles that still work. It sucks that something that could be a pretty decent media player is so crippled by greedy ******s at Sony.

While not ideal (also bearing in mind Cinavia) you can still work around the limitations with something like mkv2vob.

It will strip the av tracks out of mkv files (blazingly quickly) and package them into a mpg which the PS3 can use. It can also chop larger files into pieces < 4GB so they can be used with FAT, and the PS3 switches between pieces very quickly so there's minimal viewing interruption.

So no Samsungs? Would prefer a Samsung TV
