    Hi all!

    As per the other threads:
We are currently experiencing a higher than normal customer data usage which will affect throughput during busy hours. Network optimization is in progress which will address the issue. A resolve is expected by next week Wednesday (18/07/2012).

    Apologies for the inconvenience

    Regards,

and now it keeps bouncing between WCDMA and HSPA which seems to be causing another problem, once it bounces from hspa to wcdma the ping goes from 79ms to 385ms on local sites and the EU server ping goes up from 300ms to 600ms and up.
Let us know how things improve on the 18th.

When I first read this post, I thought you must be wrong. Of course the traceroutes between ADSL and 8ta will be different for the first number of hops. If you want to prove there is something wrong with your E173 or the tower, you must ping a local site and / or do a speed test to a local site.

But I was also having problems with my E173 , with local pings averaging 3000ms. Fortunately I tested with a LG P500 and the problems are gone ! And fortunately I use the LG until there is an official fix from 8ta.

But I also want to recommend 8ta to my neighbour who is looking for a new connection. I really don't want to recommend 8ta to him and then run into problems where the only option is to download and install a file from mediafire.

So I'm going to play it safe and recommend cellc.

Refer to my post here: http://mybroadband.co.za/vb/showthre...=1#post8590543

The HSPA Locker has made a massive improvement to my latency. I vote you for president! I cannot thank you enough!

well that didnt help me when i tested hspa locker, it still stays in WCDMA and until it switches over to hspa the pings are 1200-900 , international, and 460-800 local.

    hspa pings are 199-230 international

and the local pings are 70-90 local servers.

    sad face now

will check tonight when i get home if 8ta managed to fix my tower / thing error whatever is happening.

Cheers to him However, at one stage it also stopped working, and I had to set it to the highest setting(5kb/s I think), which is not sustainable on a capped system, since it will take over 12 GB a month, assuming someone uses it all the time.

The lowest - 0.1kb/s - worked well for a while though. But this is clearly a network issue first and foremost, as the trace I put up here from Vodacom didn't even have the HSPA locker on, and I have never had this same issue with it for the year I had Vodacom.

I guess you get what you pay for somewhat in this case. Not that it's affordable, just more affordable than other options.

Do you also use E173 modem? I suggest to test E367, E352, E353 series, there are HSPA+ modems with faster wake up time. But you will see difference only when network works as it should. I saw difference with E367, but it was on Cell C, not 8ta.

Furthermore, I have the same problem and my E173 was supplied by 8ta and not modified in any way. So if 8ta can't fix their network, they must either replace my E173 or not expect me to honour my contract.

HOWEVER: I do have some experience in this area e.g. writing a DSP modem in assembly. I suspect the 8ta towers are telling the E173s that are not transferring large volumes to switch to WCDMA. And I suspect they did it because WCDMA makes more efficient use of the frequencies allocated to Telkom when sending smaller "frames". This way 8ta can accommodate their growing subscriber base.

So I have sympathy with them. I think in general they are doing a good job at breaking up the Vodacom / MTN duopoly and I'll try to support them as far as possible.

well almost 4+2 gigs is not a small amount of data... so they still need to check it out or swop my modem with a slightly bigger version so it doesn't go into this lousy WCDMA mode, ruining my experience of ever going contract in the near future.

i had no problems for almost 4 /5 weeks. flawless pings , fast upload and download. and then the cable maintenance happened earlier this month and since then the 8ta experience was "gone"

but my general experience (customer service level and internet when it worked) with them so far has been more than good hey.

    8taaaa

    Thanks for the help

No I only have one modem, a K3772. However, clearly it's a network issue as Vodacom hasn't had this issue once over a year, while 8ta has been like this at all times since starting to use it(May).
