Pity.. I really like the dell
42 yrs of Apartheid (1948 - 1990) + 22 yrs of BEE, AA & EE (1990 - 2012) = 64 yrs of sanctioned racism in SA, I hope my kids will see the end of it.
This only shows the old Asus Zenbooks, not the new Zenbook Primes with their 1080p displays.
I've made several inquiries re the Dell and the prices quoted were all way over the top ... and then we always hear how overpriced Apple is ... but the Air costs less. Who's doing this wrong? If the idea behind the Ultrabook is to compete with the MacBook Air then someone is getting it wrong here.

seems the air beats them all

The Ultrabook OEM's are making the same mistake the Android OEM's made with their tablet offerings and it took Google with the Nexus 7 to shock them back to their senses.

I guess the MS Surface Pro will be competing against this selection of harware then?
Hmmmm... interesting, HP Folio R11 999.00.I just went online to tigerdirect added ultrabook to cart and total came up to $908.46 incl.shipping to shipito , quickly put the shipping weight and dimensions on their online quote calculator, got the shipping quotes and chose the cheapest + insurance then went to dutycalculator and...voila! R9 262.31 vs R11 999.00 = R2 736.69 price diff.
A similar exercise with the base Dell yields savings of about R3 500.00.Yerrr we have it tough here in S.A.
DELL? lol You may as well get a MECER
Not that MECER is bad in my opinion, but in the US DELL = MECER here. I have no idea why DELL systems are so expensive here.

well if u look at US$ price of Dell = $200 lower than the Mac Air... but in ZAR its more expensive... so more profit there?

At the end of the game, the King and the pawn go back into the same box
Not sure that this pricing is that accurate.
I can get the Asus UX21 in the last table for USD 899, and the 1.8GHz i7 version is 1059.95, as compared to the USD 1099 shown in the table for the i5 model.
In any event, the UX21A will be out soon, and it is much better than the previous model UX21E.
I may pick up a 13" i7 UX31A when it hits the streets.
I'm ashamed of South Africa. It's an absolute disgrace that you can pass matric with a mark of 30 percent." - Jonathan Jansen
I'm not sure about the others, but the Macbook Air.. once you order, that's pretty much what you stuck with. You can't upgrade the RAM as it's soldered into the motherboard.. the SSD is upgradable but will cost you and there no compatible after market SSD's at the moment.

From what I have heard the Asus also has the RAM soldered onto the motherboard.

The idea with an UltraBook is def not to upgrade anything. You get what you buy and live with it (battery included).
