Totally different model to Apple where everything is closed. So closed I couldn't even get free Angry Birds on the SA market.

Does anybody know when ICS (Android 4.0) is being sent to HTC Desire HD phones. It was announced on myBB it would be the first week in July. Still no update available (I'm on MTN)

Time to root your phone - I've been running ICS for the Desire (the non HD one) for the past 6 months

Cool thanks for the tip. Question for you: does one lose the warranty on the phone if you root it? Whats your performance on the non-HD Desire? That would be the true test on speed IMHO.

I was tempted to go CyanogenMod, but I don't think ICS is out for it yet. Where did you get your ROM?

CM still has camera issues, and I do not know if they fixed Bluetooth yet. Only ICS ROM that works so far is MIUIv4. Been using http://roms.miui.us/ for some time now with no issues and if you want the ICS look, just pop on Apex launcher. MIUI will most probibly hit JB now that its out as well.

The warranty is "voided" when you root&flash, but I know loads of people that send phones back with hardware issues and got it repaired no questions asked, just dont expect them to fix software ones or give software support and you should be ok.
.... and thanks for all the fish.

Initially the ICS builds were very buggy but the last few have been great. No lag at all - quite quick in fact. For the Desire's they have also sorted out the camera issues (Not sure about the HD versions) There are still a few BT issues that they are working on, and the video camera is also giving issues. As i dont use either I'm more than happy.

Officially you lose your warranty but I've know a few people who have RMA'd their phones without any problems. You can also reflash back the stock firmware if you need to return it.

I'm running Sandvold's rom - but all the roms are listed in XDA - just go 2 levels up from the below post and find your phone listed, then go into the dev section.

I upgraded a friend's HD to the other day to ice cold sandwich and it worked pretty well.

I've already started to see a few JB features in Sandvold's build - I reckon it will soon be running on JB!
