Lost and Confused...
Hi guys

I have a very strange query and hoping the great MyBB'ers can help! It's a bit difficult to describe, but I'm gonna try.

Every so often, randomly, something pop's up in the taskbar and than disappears. It takes just a fraction of a second and appears just long enough for me to miss a letter or two as I'm typing and is a major irritation.

No new programs have been installed, had a look at everything I can think of.

But the issue occurs so quickly that it's not long enough for me to see what the title is.

Can anyone recommend something that will allow me to 'see' what program is this that is trying to run?

Thanks!

You can run something like Process Explorer (download it for free from Microsoft/SysInternals). If the application opens and closes within such a short time, I doubt that even Process Explorer will show you anything.
There are file & registry monitoring tools available from SysInternals that should be able to show you what application it is, but you'll need to filter out results, because Windows accesses the registry and files like 100's of times per second.

I would also suggest that you install Microsoft Security Essentials if you don't have an antivirus solution installed yet.
If you didn't have one installed, then also install Spybot Search & Destroy, and Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware and run scans with both of them. With these 2 applications you just need to run the scans like once or twice. You don't need to use them for continuous protection (eg. Spybot's Tea-Timer).

Thank you for the advice. I did run scans with MSSE and Malware Bytes, no luck.

Eventually I just did a System Restore and it's a-ok now.

Go figure hey
