Thread: Question about Jailbreaking

  1. #1

    Default Question about Jailbreaking

I have an unlocked Iphone 4s (And i just updated to IOS 6). I wanted to find out though, why do people jailbreak?

Can anyone tell me the Pro's vs the cons?

Does it mean I can't update whenever apple releases new software?

Also, if I decide that I do not like my phone jailbroken is it possible to go back to it being not jailbroken? Is it something that once done there is no turning back?

I tried searching it up on the forum but don't think I used the right search terms cuz nothing much came up.

    Cool, you a developer?
To install apps which aren't allowed by Apple's rules, like themes, process managers, geeky stuff usually. Oh, and to pirate apps.

Yeah it means you have to do a manual upgrade followed by a re-jailbreak. You cannot use the built-in software update.

Yes, a simple restore will bring your phone back to normal.

nope not a developer. Just a normal user. Thats why I'm trying to find out if its worth doing it or not?

OK, how did you get iOS 6 installed then? Just curious, since I want iOS 6 too!

I find it borderline worth it, there's one Jailbreak app I appreciate, called SBSettings, brings down a console with a swipe on the top that lets you monitor your iDevice and quickly do useful things like switch off 3G etc.

Also if you wanna heavily customise your iPhone, like themes or custom gestures and crap, yeah. Or pirate apps.

Personally I find iOS fine as it is, and buy my apps through a US account. So I don't jailbreak anymore.

my brother told me how to do it. I used udid and just paid like 3 or 7 dollars or something and downloaded it early. I don't wanna customize but it would be nice to be able to try apps and see if i like it before I buy it. That would be so nice

Most certainly is!! I want to puke when I pick up a standard iDevice!! It's so stale and boring it's nauseating!!!

Not only can you theme your jailbroken device but the plethora of tweaks and mods available allows you to add features and functionality that serves to greatly enhance an already very competent OS.

Make a list of all the little things that irritate you about your iPhone. Guaranteed there is a fix for each and everyone one of them via jailbreaking.

The process of jailbreaking is incredibly simple, it does void your warranty but in the unfortunate event of you not being able to restore a broken iphone, neither will Apple. If you are able to restore all traces of jailbreak will have been wiped.

In closing the benefits of jailbreaking, in my vast experience on the subject, have far outweighed any benefits or advances made through Apple's firmware upgrades.

My setup currently. Boss.ios theme by FIF7Y and LS by Larke, mini widgets by The_Durben. A few examples of the customization available to jailbreakers.

I would be cautious as there are security risks involved, as apps have direct access to your root and if your not debugging and identifying what exactly an app does then it could send your details without you knowing.
