Android covert connection to Autopage Cellular

Hi,
I am fault finding slow internet connectivity from my mobile phone and in the process discovered encrypted communications from my phone to Autopage Cellular going on in the background (I am with Autopage as service provider). My question is why would there be any communications with them from my phone at all ? I have no apps installed to the tune of this and AFAIK this is invasion of privacy. Can anyone give a palatable reason why the phone would need to contact them ?
