Thread: 8ta Free minutes. How does it work?

  1. #1

Question 8ta Free minutes. How does it work?

For every 3 minutes call you receive you get 1 minute free to any network. I bought an extra sim to try this but received a msg saying that my free minutes will only be available next month. How does this free minutes work exactly and when do they expire?

The free minuters you receive you're only able to use in the following month. At the end of that month it expires.

Thanks. I receive free 8ta to 8ta mins every month that I don't use. Think I have about 735mins by now. 735mins divided by 3 gives me 245mins to any network for next month

I think there is a cap to how much you can earn though. I read a while ago in the terms that it can only accumelate to a maximum amount of R500. Not very clear how much they regard 1 free minute to be if you would convert it to rands.

I'm quoting the terms from their page.

Free minutes are accumulated when calls are received from 8ta or other South African mobile networks only, and exclude calls from any other operators or providers of telecommunication services. For every three minutes of incoming calls you receive you will be credited with airtime equal to one minute. Free minutes can only be accumulated to a maximum value of R500 per month inclusive of VAT. Free minutes accumulated during a calendar month will only be available in the following calendar month. Free minutes are used before paid-for airtime. Free minutes cannot be used for international calls, premium rated services or value added services. Free minutes will be earned while the 8ta SIM is active on the 8ta network. Send 5 SMSs on a day and get 50 SMSs free, for that day. Free SMSs will be available only on the day you receive them. Free SMS allocation is applicable once in a 24-hour cycle only. Therefore, the unused SMSs of the 50 free SMSs will expire at 23:59 of each day.

Carry over of free minutes or short message service (SMS) messages are not permitted. The promotional offer is limited to person to person usage and excludes machine to person or machine to machine usage, WASP Services, LCRs and virtual or physical SIM farms. The SIM and mobile telephone number cannot be sold or transferred to another person or juristic entity and must remain in the possession of the subscriber who initially completed RICA registration. The promotional offer is only available to natural persons. The promotional offer is not applicable where the 8ta service is used for business purposes and Telkom reserves the right to suspend the promotion in such cases at Telkom's sole discretion. Telkom reserves the right to change the terms and conditions of this promotion without notice to the subscriber. To check your available balance, dial *188#.

It works very well indeed. I have the R99 phone for business purposes so when people phone me I get free minutes to make phone calls when needed. Calls received in the month give you free minutes to use the next month.

Same, got a R99 phone for business use about a year ago with an 8ta prepaid. I get a LOT in incoming calls, so much so that I haven't paid* for airtime since!

    * The free minutes are for voice only, I've bought the odd R10 here and there for SMS's
