Thread: PHP Editor for Ubuntu?

  1. #1

    Default PHP Editor for Ubuntu?

Can anyone recommend a good PHP editor for Ubuntu?

I just installed Geany and it looks OK. But if there is something better to use, I am more than happy to install something else to try.

I got NetBeans earlier this evening, but had some issues installing plugins. Too tired (read lazy) to resolve that issue right now, will probably look at that in the morning.

I have been working in Dreamweaver till now, just thought I would try something new - hence installing Ubuntu.

Eclipse also has some great php tools. You also have to install them as separate plugins but it's very simple and done from the software.

Thanks, I will download Eclipse tomorrow and take a look. I don't mind installing plugins, for some reason I was really just battling to get it right in NetBeans. Search wasn't working etc.

Have a look at PHPStorm. It is one of the best PHP IDEs available. I would say, better than Dreamweaver. It works on Linux, Win and Mac. You can download a 30 day trail. http://www.jetbrains.com/phpstorm/

If you want a free programme, you can have a look at Aptana Studio, which uses Eclipse. http://www.aptana.com/products/studio3
But PhpStorm is the best one I have found so far.

Agreed on both. PHPStorm for the paid app and Aptana if you want free software.

Thanks everyone! I will install Aptana as well to have a look. I am avoiding paid apps at the moment, but I will check PHPStorm as well - curious now!
