Thread: How do I find my tracker device?

Default How do I find my tracker device?

No I don't have a stolen car in my back yard, I've cancelled my tracker contract after they raised the cost to R183 a month. Incidently once I said I was going to cancel they offered me a rate of R115, so they've been screwing me for the last 4 years.... After hearing that I definitely cancelled them. If you do use them and want a lower rate try the same.

Anyway, I asked them if they were going to remove the device, and they said no since it was mine. But now it's dormant in my vehicle. Any idea how I could find it. I'd like to take it out and see if I can swap sim cards and link it to my own tracking system I'm working on.

    Lol good luck.
That’s like asking coca cola or finding the recipe to make coke.
Thats silly tho, if its your's they should come and take it out of your car and give it to you, not saying "oh there's your tracker device and then throw it in a bush and expect you to find it....."

By the way what vehicle is it?

There are some obvious hiding places you can look. They do have a device that beeps when you're near it. My friend was hijacked by guys with such a device.

I don’t know anything about the unit, But I’m sure it obviously need power right? so look for wires that maybe lead from the battery or any wire that seems to come from a power source and it might lead you to it?

My Honda had a Netstar Sleuth system fitted as it came from the dealer as part of their theft prevention on test drives. I signed up with Netstar again as part of my insurance requirements. When the installer came out and saw that there is a unit present already, he took it out (left the original wiring) and put in the new unit.

What was interesting is when I called in to test it the 1st time about 3months later and gave the registration number, the car was still listed as belonging to Honda Midrand, which only got changed on the Netstar system then.

Most GPS tracking systems have the unit installed in the dashboard. Dismantle your glove-box and it it typically behind there with a antenna running close to the windscreen or up the A-Pillar.

It doesn't connect directly to the battery.

Agreed - you won't find it that way, but it is going to quietly need juice from the battery if you leave the car standing for any length of time.

The only people who find it directly are Tracker and hijackers...

You're not supposed to know where it is because that'd be a recipe for insurance fraud and people do remove the unit sell car and report hijacking.

On the invoice there is sticker with a code, that usually indicates where the unit is located. At least thats what a fitment guy once told me.

The Battery on that unit will be dead. What these companies dont tell you, is that some of these units only have a three year battery life.
