Default DMCA Takedown Requests Effect Usenet Completion

    link

ok I know its an old article, but this is happening a lot more frequently now...

Used to be every now and then, but you need to be damn quick with your popular downloads otherwise you can say hello to an umcomplete 720p movie file.

It would appear that the days of using news servers are closing and we gonna have to be at the mercy of torrents Im on Astraweb, probably one of THE best server providers and last night I ran into several issues.

    A passing fag or what?

Astraweb is known to respond to DMCA more quickly. I am on NewsDemon and movies as far back as 1200 days still work 100% (Batman being popular ones that needs to be reupped) so get yourself a block account (from another provider) when the DMCA hits.

Alternatively if you on a site where requests are made and you have a say, get your uploaders to rename the files uploaded so only the site in question knows what the content holds. It is only because the raw indexers allow you to see contents that the DMCAs get into effect so quickly.

NNTP is here to stay for a very long time as is FTP / IRC DCC (bless you) / HTTP / DC++ / torrents etc.

thanks for the tips. By block account I assume you mean like a limited backup account?

I'm so pissed off right now, just got home and another one failed...

    Yeah, right on.

NewsDemon recently had an issue if you got an unlimited account where your speed was capped lower when reaching an unspecified threshold (i suspect 1.5TB) as it happened to me twice. A quick visit to online tech support and it was sorted. Wasn't p!ssed or anything but atleast enough users complained that it is fixed. A heads up if you on the unlimited plan.

You made the right choice though . Mines is configured on SSL with 20 EU and 25 to US server.

Lastly, make sure you got SAB 0.7.3 as it includes many additions and fixes. I recommend to backup your settings and queue if anything happens. Most notable thing is they have the "random_server_ip ( on ) " option which was on but now is OFF by default, this would cause an issue with disconnects to your provider.

I find http://www.xsusenet.com/ to be quite good. The premium account is not bad with good retention and doesn't look like they are so badly effected by DMCA takedowns just yet. Now newsgroup drirect is another story with almost all 1080p - 720p movies and series taken down faster than my 4mb adsl can download it.

You can use the coupon "switch" @ http://www.xsusenet.com/ for a 20% discount. Works out to be 4.9 Euro which is about +-R50. I tried it and its really not bad.

If you fail with that I can always give you a invite to torrentday. They are not so stricked on seeding as all the other torrent sites but their torrents are so well seeded fullspeed all the way. This is like my backup if usenet fails.

The trick is to have one main provider and a few backup providers. I use Astraweb as my main account, and I have block accounts with NewsDemon and BlockNews as well as a free XSUsenet account. Haven't had a single failure in well over a month, and I download a lot of older popular 1080p Ubuntu ISOs that failed when I was using just Astraweb.

I've been using BlockNews the last couple of months in conjunction with Astraweb on Alt.Bin - no issues anymore.

Don't know what you guys are on about. I've hardly ever had these issues. Plus, I use SSL.

    lol.

On topic: I've never had any issues the last year or so. I can't really wrap my head around what you guys are talking about . If all else fails, you can que it up on the IS, Mweb, OW or SAIX news hosts and the blocks tend to complete, even with really old ones.
