    Default New Laptop

    Hey Guys,

I'm in need for a new laptop. I have a budget of around R20K.
Any recommendations for a Windows laptop, or should I get a Mac?

    Min Specs:

    15'' screen
    Intel i7 Processor (3rd Gen...Ivy Bridge)
    8GB RAM
500GB HDD (512 SDD would be awesome)
    Dedicated graphics Card: 1GB GDDR5 ?
    USB 3 ports

    Thanks

What do you need to use it for? Your own entertainment, or is there work invovled?

The following laptops match your requirements:

    Asus Multimedia Series N56VM 15.6" Notebook Computer (N56VM-S4060X) - R12,999.00

    Asus Multimedia Series N76VM 17.3" Notebook PC - R15,699.00

You can use the rest of your budget to purchase a SSD for the laptop.

    The SSD that I recommend you buy is this one: OCZ Vertex 4 512GB 2.5" SATA6G - R5,900 + R75.00 (shipping)

    512GB SSD's are still extremely expensive, would you be able to survive on a 256GB SSD? OCZ Vertex 4 256GB 2.5" SATA6G - R2,519 + R75.00 (shipping)

    Option 1:
    256GB SSD Laptop: (recommended option)
Asus Multimedia Series N76VM 17.3" Notebook PC
    OCZ Vertex 4 256GB 2.5" SATA6G
    R15,699.00 + R100+- (shipping) + R2,519 + R75.00 (shipping) = R18393.00

Since this laptop comes with two hard drives, you should be able to remove one and install the SSD, leaving you with 750GB hard drive space left over.

    Option 2:
    512GB SSD Laptop:
Asus Multimedia Series N56VM 15.6" Notebook Computer (N56VM-S4060X)
    OCZ Vertex 4 512GB 2.5" SATA6G
    R12,999.00 + R100+- (shipping) + R5900.00 + R75.00 (shipping) = R18974.00

You can then either use the hard drive as an external by buying an external enclosure you you can sell it off.

Please note the above two options don't include laptop bags.

Great, so not a Mac then :-P I'd have a look at...

    Dell Vostro V3560 15.6" 1080p @ R12052 (SSD upgrade: Transcend SSD720 512GB @ R4693)
    or
    Toshiba Satellite P850 15.6" 1080p @ R16,100 (SSD Upgrade: OCZ Vertex 4 256GB @ R2519) (OS Upgrade: Windows 7 Pro @ R909)

I have a feeling you'll like the ASUS N-series that NomNom suggested, but these here are more business-class notebooks. For work and less gaming, its Dell all the way. If you'd like to play something along the way but would like a decent experience, go for the Toshiba.

    Neither will disappoint.
