Telkom increases ADSL installation fee

Exactly what they did Nov 1 2005. Brought down the access portion and then nuked us with ridiculous pricing for traffic and hard capped us on top of that. No!!! Enough is enough!

What can we do? Wait for the ICASA to save the day??? Yeah right. You can come as optimistic as you want to this forum, eventually you'll be well educated in the deceptive tactics of the incumbent - which can even make a groan man cry. :(

dude the installation charge can be whatever, its once off. its the monthly costs that is a problem.

Does the "Self-Installation" still cost nothing? Or have they increased that aswell..

:)

does the self installation actually work? what does it entale i mean most of the installation is done on telkom side?

Self-Installation?

I suppose it depends on how 'self-installation' is defined.

If you provide your own ADSL Modem / Router, then the Telkom techie that installs the ADSL component to your line will not provide any microfilters or perform the installation for you. You're left to connect, install and configure everything yourself from your end. Does that qualify as self-install?

If so, why then does your Telkom bill still reflect a payment due for 'Installation' being the full amount as if you ordered your ADSL modem / Router through Telkom, had the techie connect, install and configure everything for and supply the required microfilter for any handsets in your house?

Semantics - that's all it is, semantics. Better to pay the beast than risk causing more red tape to affect one's service and waste time complaining I suppose.

Lovely analogy :

It seems that what Telkom lose on the swings they make up on the merry go round, so to speak. The only problem with this scenario is that consumers are forced to take both rides, and have no choice between entertainment parks.
I'd add : "while consumers are constantly being subjected to the service level "House of Horrors' and ADSL connectivity resembles "The Big Dipper"

Nope, perhaps for you the installation charge could be 'whatever' if you have large amounts of disposable cash lying about, but for the rest of Telkodemonopolies' customers that would like to have ADSL - well most would prefer the once-off installation charge to not be sky-high...

And yes, the monthly charges are very definitely too high as well, which is why we are fighting the perception being created by Telkodemonopolies' propagandists that the so called ADSL price decreases are sufficient, bcos they are not and are merely meant to placate us, we will not be placated!!!

Well its hardly "sky-high" anyway, quite in line with what you pay per month i geuss. Still sucks, but it looks good in SA because of all the other providers being wireless who have to charge huge once off costs. The SNO could change this..

And about this being like 1 Nov, its nothing like it. This was purley a price cut on the monthly portion while the bandwidth prices remained the same. they are hardly nuking anyone by increasing the install fees. Infact it does even effect you at all.

But this combined with the increased monthly rental (the normal one) is pretty sneaky.. They didnt even let anyone know about this one..

Sorry, I wasn't refering to your post.. should have quoted what I was talking about. It was this:

Exactly what they did Nov 1 2005. Brought down the access portion and then nuked us with ridiculous pricing for traffic and hard capped us on top of that. No!!! Enough is enough!

And I have applied for ADSL before thanks. Cancelled it after about a month.
Oh and of course it can't be whatever it wants (the once off charge that is), but i thought you were implying that it is curretnly sky high.. and well it is pretty high but there are other much higher prices to worry about.

and well it is pretty high but there are other much higher prices to worry about.
Telkom goes a long way towards increasing prices for all business, everybody across the board - telkom are a substantial part of the inflation rate!! Telkom is bad for all business, citizens, and they set a bad example by stating "rape is alright."

i presume the so called 'saving' is now null and void. grrrrrr:mad: @telscum

Can somebody tell me how exactly does the self install work.(I don't mean connecting ones router or anything like that, that's strait forward) Is it totally free and can I expect faster installation?

so self install is you just plug all the stuff in your self and save that R400 something?

Thanks, the thing is I am moving house and I am wondering if going the self install route will be faster. I can install everything on my end no probs. Was just wondering what it all entails on telkoms side
