Default Virgin Sim Card + Nokia 9500 GPRS Error

I can't connect to the internet with my Nokia 9500 with a virgin sim card... even tho i have received the settings ota AND rebooted the phone...

Cell C 3G Replied in Pvt msg to me

Well i use the vdata apn and also set my data card to only use GPRS/EDGE and it connects fine. But how ever i have seen some people aren't able to connect. There is network problem with data cards as there IMEI numbers aren't registring properly on the Cell C network. they are workin on it and i will post as soon as it is sorted out[/QUOTE]

    ------------

I have a feelin its not just the data cards - cause i have a nokia 9500 and for some reason it doesnt seem to like the setting that's sent to it ota for virgin... if i use the "WAP-GPRS" access point to connect to a website... it gives the following error:

    System:
    Failed to connect

If i use the "Virgin MMS GPRS" setting it gives me the following:

Your phone settings is incorrect. You are tryin gto access the internet by using the MMS apn or the HOME URL on your MMS Profile is incorrect. In th eMMS Profile the APN should be "vmms". And the HOMEPAGE http://mms.virginmobile.co.za/ In the WAP Profile the APN should be "vdata". And the HOMEPAGE http://www.virginmobile.co.za/ or any favorite site. Or contact Customer Care for help. Just to comment i don't work for Virgin Mobile, So i am telling you my personal experience. But I am just repeating what Technical from Cell C told me. About the Data Cards. As Cell C and Virgin Mobile are experiencing problems with Data Cards. But Cell C are working on it.

It would seem that my settings now work on my Nokia 9500... the call centre however confirms that they're having problems with GPRS & Data Cards.... but that they don't know when they'll have it fixed That's a bit sad

It is very NB to make a call first (and a voice says welcome to virgin mobile) and THEN gprs will work. Otherwise it will give an error. This is if you are using a cellphone for access, if using a data card first make a call on a cell before putting in the card

Yes well - my problem is that it works when i put it in my Nokia 9500... on its own and when i use the phone for a modem on my laptop... it's just that when i put it in my MTN data card it doesn't want to know anything... it just makes a beep... then it seems to disconnect and can't find a network again untill i reboot the card.... v.strange

Try something for me do network search with your VM sim in your MTN card and select vodacom 2G. (you can try Vodacom 3G but i doubt it will work)

I selected Vodacom 2G ... it registered - and showed me bein connected to it.... couldn't do anything though - did pretty much the same as being connected to the VM network... it tries to connect, fails, then it just drops the connection.

Error 619: A connection to the remote computer could not be established, so the port used for this connection was closed.

Do you by any chance have a Cell C Sim card, if you do could you try that, don't do any network searches just pluy and play. 'internet' APN. if that connects then it's out of my hands. VM has the problem. Also remember VM has all there own equipment on there side they just use Cell C's base station's.
