This is cool, can't wait to see how this pans out. Question is how will the adoption be. Remember the first time 64bit CPU's game out that the uptake was a bit slow. I'm sure it should be faster now that there is a bit more experience with developers and designers that have used 64bit apps already.

If a smartphone can have 8gb of ram and a multicore 64bit processor, we might just see the pad phone concept expand to desktop home machines, replacing allinone desktops

And where will that leave Intel? Can they keep up?

I think the biggest reason for that was price.

So why will the 64-bit processor be any faster than the 32-bit processor? I am clearly missing something.

Well he may have unknowingly raised a semi-valid point. How many mobile apps do we have that needs the memory capabilities of 64bit?

Yip. Dead serious. If you have 2 similar processors with the only difference being 32 bit vs 64 bit, then the 32 bit might even be faster on certain tasks. I am now totally ignoring the memory addressability difference.
