Default Vodacom Handset Status [Network Compliance Testing etc]

This is purely for information and the intention is not to turn this forum into a handset one.

It's a broadband forum and my knowledge on handsets do not extend past cutting and pasting the following information from a weekly report.

PLease note, this is only a technical update on the network testing of the phones and in no way implies the phones will become available in the retail channel.

Obviously the more you request a specific model, the better the chance that it'll be made available. To do so, contact the Vodacom retail channel who will feed your requests to the procurement channel.

This week the Sony Ericsson K310i, Sony Ericsson K310i, Dell D620 Latitude and Samsung SGH I320 were endorsed for use on the Vodacom Network.

No phone was not endorsed for use on the Vodacom network. (i.e. nothing failed)

The Sony Ericsson W950i, Sony Ericsson Z610, Sony Ericsson P990i, Vodafone 710, Sony Ericsson W710i, Sony Ericsson Z550i were received for testing.

So once vodacom receives a phone for testing, how long untill it becomes available?
I've been waiting for the P990i since March already

Tahir can probably answer that, but once it passed (and it is actually released), probably a few weeks to filter down the channel.

Had a lot of requests for the ETA of this handset, thus this new thread.

IMO an excellent idea to reuse this thread to communicate status changes in Vodacom's handset testing & approval .

v3g, it will add to your weekly workload - perhaps a longer-term solution would be a section on vodacom.co.za where people can lookup the status of any particular handset considered for testing & approval...
Trolls stab you in the back and bleed you dry like mosquitoes, and that's why I don't feed the BBL trolls with any new posts.

We're working on a extensive on-line 'self-help' capability, the idea being to get you guys to look up info before you need to revert to asking. Saw the initial demo this week, quite nice.

The knowledge-base you mentioned a little while back? - has the team working on this ensured that all the KB articles & solutions can be indexed by Google and other search engines? - should probably move this disussion to a new thread .

V3G I assume if the Dell 5505 (for D620) was approved by Vodacom, its already recieved ICASA type approval?

Yes, the same system. Good point about Google. Will pick it up.
