Is the new iphone 5 prone to bending?

Can't be, it's the best gadget in the world.

Haters will always hate... just saw the URL in your sig, it all makes sense now..

Back on topic, my device hasn't bent, only had it 2 weeks now... Will keep an eye out.

TBH the structural issues coupled with the lack of jailbreak is why I am selling my iPhone 5 upgrade and buying a 2nd hand 4s.

So the iPhone 5 is turning out to be epic fail. Purple haze on the camera and now it bends like wors. Glad I have a Galaxy S3

I have a S3 and it is also not the best structurally. It can't take the punch like my S2. The screen already has a small crack and it hasn't fallen or had any harsh treatment. My S2 took a few severe knocks and is still fine.

Pretty sure the bending issue isn't that big a deal. With how many people has this happened on here?

I know three people with cracked S3s now, and 2 with cracked S2s. Pretty much every iPhone fan I know has cracked at least one though.

Aside from the 1 in a million (literally) cases where the phone bent what other structural issues are you referring to?

If I wasnt getting mine in SA I'd get Applecare in a heartbeat but the SA version is next to useless.

EDIT - is a iOS6 Jailbreak unlikely in the future?

All I know is that Motorola and Sony is tough as nails. Quality and reliability chassis is most of their game. Yet, again only my opinion from what I experienced.

The scuffing issue.

I wanted to believe it was a storm in a teacup.

Then I went to Melrose Arch iStore on the 15th of December, that's barely 2 working days after the iPhone 5's local launch.

Both their white and black display models had scuffing on the chamfered edges.

There's a 180+ page thread on Macrumors on the issue.

Over at iPhoneza.co.za there is a guy trying to sell his 1 month old 64gb white iPhone5

Not an unreasonable asking price and not the most prolific forum to be advertising his wears on but no takers on account, I assume, of how worn it looks after a mere month of usage. How the 5 ages will effect resale value.

As for the jailbreak it should come at some stage but movement on that front has been painfully slow!!

OK - I considered the scuffing issue to be more of a cosmetic issue rather than structural but I get what you're saying. I was planning on putting my phone in a case anyway - to afford it some protection from me. If I can manage to drop R50k worth of camera gear on the ground, not once but twice in quick succession, just think what happens to my phones!

Ironically the iPhone 5 is most likely the most robust iPhone to date, fairing relatively well in the obligatory drop tests.

It's anodized chamfered edges appear to be its Achilles heel.

When Stuff magazine rates the iPhone 5 lower than Samsung and HTC products there can be no more doubt that Apple made too many mistakes with this baby. It does not meet Apple's own standards. It is not what we expected from Apple. My advice is to wait for an updated model. It is too much money to risk. I have faith in Apple to get it right with an updated model that may well jump to the top of the Stuff list again ... but as it stands roght now I will wait, or go for S3/HTC One+/Note2 if time is of the essence.

Did you read the reason why?
Enhanced, refined and more powerful than ever, but mapping issues keep the iPhone 5 off the top spot
Mapping, and since that review google has finally released their map app.

I expect the structural integrity of the iPhone to be beyond reproach.

iOS is not evolving at a significant enough rate for it to be the sole motivation to get an iPhone.

The design of the phone, the quality of the materials used in its manufacturer, its resale value. In addition to iOS, these are the factors that motivate people to get one.

TBH I'm quite happy with my jailbroken 4s. I intend taking my scheduled upgrade and selling it for cash.
