Telkom Clearcom FLLA (Fixed Line Look Alike)

Hello.

Due to no phone lines in my area I have recently taken advantage of Telkoms great deal with a clearcom wireless phone. I chose the 10 gig deal. The only problem is that its a usb connection from the phone to the PC. So you cant connect multiple users and also cant connect ipads of course.

Does anyone know if you can connect the clearcom phone to a router via usb and then use it as a hotspot. I know its possible using the USB dongles from cell phone companies so im thinking its the same principle, right?:confused:
 
To be honest those phones usually have slow data connections and are a pain to use for networked internet or wifi etc...

I used to have the same problem with my huawei flla phone so I just took out a 8ta 10 gig promo and use it with a router instead,works much better now with voice and data separate.Better hurry though because I believe that special ends in two days time....

You do know that your device takes a sim card right?
 
I was told by a Telkom technician that you can use other ISP accounts over these things, don't know how it would work though considering its completely different to the way the fixed line networks work just added my 2c there, but in your case I'm sure you can get a WAN router like the ones you plug 3G dongles into and use that to "dial up" the connection and distribute it

You cant use other isps on this system,I know i tried long and hard but it is simply not possible since its like a mobile network and vodacom/cell c/mtn/8ta systems don't allow isp's.

In fact flla simply uses the same towers as 8ta but the call rates are better.

get a second hand (working) laptop with wifi from cash crusaders

plug the telkom FLLA equipment on the laptop, set it up & connect

share it via your wifi adapter

use ipads etc as you would normally.

Telkom is selling the Huawei B660 mobile router. This router is priced at about R1000 at the stores. Just make sure that you buy the B660 and not the B683 if you still want to use it for normal telephone conversations. The sim card that is currently in your FLLA phone must be removed and placed in this router. You can then connect via Wifi or via lan cable to the router for internet access and the router allow you to connect a normal telephone (corded PSTN phone) to the router to make and receive your land line calls.

I have had the system for the past week now and i can report good data connections from my side. I am aware that it has a sim card but did not know i could use it in any device. So that is great

I was not aware that I could share internet via my laptop. If i can figure out how to do this, it would solve my problem and then would be able to connect my wifi only ipad to the pc. Great. Let me see if i can do this

Thank you FireTelkom. This is exactly what i am looking for, though a bit pricey at the moment. Let me see if i can first connect my devices through my laptops wifi. Otherwise thank you for that
 
YES!!!!! I figured out how to make my laptop a wifi hotspot and can now connect my ipad to the internet via laptop!!! I am so stoked!!

Lol them nerds hey,so you're going to leave your laptop on 24/7 and kill the battery and waste electricity?As a short term solution yeah you're sorted but I would still suggest you consider a proper long term solution which will also prove more reliable.

Oh and when you say you have a good connection what speeds are you getting on speedtest.net?I usually get around 6mbps on telkom mobile/flla/8ta so use that as a gauge of the quality of the connection.

Hey falcon786

Yes i know what you mean, its just for personal use so i take my laptop to work and then plug it in when im home. Its just nice to sit in the lounge with the ipad instead of the laptop connected to the phone at the desk. And then skype and facetime on the ipad is better to me. Can walk around with it.

But i agree, it would be a short term solution until prices come down on those routers or salary goes up, hehe.

By good connection i am talking about signal strength. Its strong and hasn't dropped me. Now I applied for the 1mbps connection and that seems to be very good. It doesn't seem to be throttled at all. My folks have a 1mbps fixed line and it seems a lot slower than mine. I do believe you can opt for a 2mbps line also with the clearcom phone but as of now it doesn't seem necessary. I'm not sure if the line goes faster than 2mbps but i assume more money equals more speed.
