imate sp3/ active sync problems

I have a 1 year old imate sp3 and have tried unsuccessfully to sync using active sync many many times. I tried using the usb cable and bluetooth- both have failed miserably. Bluetooth picks up my phone but I am unable to sync my address book. Can anyone help??
 
1) Do you have Microsoft Outlook installed?
2) Do you have firewall software installed?

Are you running the latest version of active sync? (4.2)
 
Yes i have Outlook, no firewall software and yes to version 4.2
