Hey guys,
I posted this over on the sagamer forum of which I am a regular poster and I didn't get much response so I thought it would be worthwhile posting on here since there are a lot of guys that have lots of experience with networking.
Here is my post:
I've found something interesting with regards to DMZ & UPNP and I've tried looking it up but just can't figure it out.
I have a static IP Address for my PS3 and the IP is reserved for my PS3 on the router. I have the PS3 IP address in my DMZ on the router. When I go through the manual network set up on the PS3 I turn the UPNP option off - 'UPNP disabled'
Now here is the interesting thing:
On Fifa 13 the game shows you whether your NAT Type is Restrictive, Moderate or Open. My Nat Type on Fifa has always shown as open and I assumed that it was because of the DMZ, but then the other day I decided to turn UPNP off on my ROUTER after reading about possible security breaches in some routers that have UPNP enabled. I figured that it couldn't possibly affect my PS3 because I had UPNP disabled in the PS3 network set up and was using the DMZ.
The next time I played Fifa my connection showed as 'moderate'.
This has me confused... Surely disabling UPNP on the PS3 itself should stop the PS3 from using UPNP even if it's enabled on your router. Also is it bad to have UPNP and DMZ activated at the same time, I know open is meant to be better but is there not some doubling up of something going on somewhere?
Anyone have any ideas as to what's happening and why?
Thanks!!
