Mdantsane - A 21-year-old Mdantsane man was sentenced to 10 years in prison for robbing his neighbour of R100 last year, Eastern Cape police said on Monday.

Lieutenant Nkosikho Mzuku said Yamkela Tshoyi was sentenced on Friday by the Mdantsane Magistrate's Court.

In May 2012, Tshoyi's neighbour was on his way to a spaza shop when he robbed and threatened him with a knife.

“Yamkela (Tshoyi) managed to get the money and ran away with it,” he said.

Mzuku said it was not easy to convince the magistrate, but in the end Tshoyi was found guilty. - Sapa

I don't think he deserves 10 years... :erm:

EDIT: Ok he did threaten him with a knife

The legal system in this country is just as ****ed up as those that are administering it.

Others get away with rape and murder. At least now he's qualified and qualifies to be the next president.

He threatened his life with a dangerous weapon. The amount is not relevant.

I pirated the Sound of Music album a couple of years ago. I don't have it anymore.

I think thinks it was worth about R30 ... does this mean I should go to jail for 3 years?

Actually the sentence of 10years is about right. It's the sentences for rape, murder etc that need to be addressed.

If you threaten with a knife for R100 you'll probably kill for R1000 and the crimes will get more and more violent.

Good, hope he sits for all 10 years.

I don't know if crime & corruption are on a massive increase or if I'm just noticing it more but I'm feeling sick about it these days

The amount is irrelevant. The crime is armed robbery - a serious crime !!

If he has no problem using a knife to hold up his own neighbor in a public street, what chance does a stranger have, sitting in their house watching TV at night ?

No, you didn't steal stuff or threaten anyone with a knife. (I'm assuming)

Don't we have an automatic tariff for crimes like the UK does.? These prescribe mandatory minimum sentences and would -at least in theory- be enforced across the board. Like above Robbery. 5 years (on its own) (with knife, -that was the weapon) (the aggravating circumstances)so Robbery 5 years with Gun... 20 years, with knife,... 10 years, with stick ...5 years, with two fists... 4 years with one hand... 3 years with two fingers... 1 year. That way they just look it up like in a giant paint by the numbers book issued to all magistrates.

The problem is today he snatches R100 from you at knife point and gets a slap on the wrist, tomorow he tries it again and gets resistance and ends up killing someone over R 100.

The first thing you going to say is "wtf wasnt he locked up the first time?", justice has been served, if i had my way every piece of thieving trash would get ground up and turned into bio diesel!
