AV Receiver Denon 1713 or Yamaha RX-V573

Hi,
Looking to build my first decent Home Theatre system. I wanted to get the AV Receiver first and then get the speaker set later.

5.1 vs 7.1 is not much of an issue. Happy either way.
HDMI Audio passthrough is important.
AirPlay and DLNA is important.
At least 4 HDMI inputs is important.

Both are going for the same price - R5999.

The Yamaha is the demo model and discontinued. So it's normally R6999.
The Denon is brand new.

Anyone had or heard both?

What would you go with?

I haven't decided on speakers. Can I use my elCheapo Samsung (R1200 HT) speakers with it for now?

Not expecting mind blowing sound from them but when I get a good pair of speakers later, I want awesomeness.

Yes, I've heard of the RX-V573. :)

It's bigger brother, the RX-V673, has won What Hifi's 2012 Product of the Year award.

I'm actually gonna get myself the Yamaha RX-V675 next, currently using the Yamaha RX-V663.

Oh, Mission or Boston Acoustics speakers sound great with Yamaha receivers, but shop around. You might like another brand speaker with the Yamaha. Your choice.

Get the Yamaha for an upgrade path to 7.1 if you care for that. The Denon has the Audessy software equalizer which is top notch. Both have 3D upscaling. For a HT receiver, I prefer Denon's sound. R5,999 is a fantastic price for a brand new 1713 btw...

I just upgraded from the RX-V663 to the RX-V673 got it at Tafelberg on sale for R7500.00

My Parents have the RX-V573 and they very happy with it.

Glad to hear that Yamaha is popular. Will go see the demo model and what condition it is in before deciding. Will let you know.
 
A little feedback on my decision.

So, decided to go with the new Denon X1000 which replaces the 1713. X1000 has all I need for now and got it for R6240 including delivery to my door tomorrow morning. Cannot wait!

Thanks for help everyone. Will see how this puppy sounds.

Now to find some speakers.....

Can't find anything in my price range and the audio shop seems decently priced. Anywhere else recommended?

Where did you buy from?

I have an old Denon 1803. I think its time for an upgrade.
Is there any place that does trade ins? It still looks brand new.

Got mine from http://www.audicoonline.co.za/.

Awesome service. They still had one 1713 for R5500 and the X1000 for R6740. If you register, your less R500 comes off you purchase of over R5000.

I ordered today at 11ish and got it delivered at 4.

Oh, and they do trade ins at Audico. But I am sure you will get more selling it privately on AV forums. From what I understand though, selling on AV Forums requires quite a few hurdles to jump through.
