Disappointment with the Cellc USB Modem

I use Virgin Mobile for Internet access because it is 50c a meg :) I was using my Nokia 6230i to surf the web on my pc. I routinely got +- 12 kilobytes per second and the connection was very stable.

I got tired of having to plug the phone in all the time and so thought that I would buy a CellC USB modem. I spent my R1300 yesterday and eagerly plugged it in and set it to use the vdata APN. My problem is that it is incredibly slow. Phone = 12 KB/s and the USB Modem = 2KB/s. I know that the modem can hit higher speeds because my max speed is around 130 kb/s but the average is always around 24kb/s. I am beginning to regret buying the modem...

Geez, all i can say is that i hope you're kidding us, those speeds are terrible bro.
I hope they pick up. Happy Heritage Day
 
May help if using WINXP
1. Double click the "Safely remove Hardware" icon on bottom right of screen near clock.
2. You will see "USB Composite Device"
3. On each item press properties
4. Select the maximum port speed available = 128000 for com ports / 460800 for modem
 
Hey Stocksie. I have checked and the ports are set to maximum. I downloaded the generic drivers and software from the manufacturer's website. Managed to hit 7 or 8 kilobytes per second. Still not as good as the phone but at least I can use it.

I have my suspicions that it is roaming off the Vodacom network. I have forced the phone to stay on the CellC network but have no way of doing that for the modem.

Please can you PM me your details so that I can arrange for a member of our modem support team to sort out your problem. What you describe is very strange and the modem is definitely capable of speeds comparable to your Nokia handset.
