Morning All!

I'm new to this "torrent" concept and have downloaded 2 torrent clients (one after the other obviously ;) ), and I've used it on 2 different sites to download some Smallville. After the first attempt, I got the file down eventually and then found it had no sound!
I then downloaded a more popular torrent client, opened my ports and forwarded as people instructed...but after the .avi was downloaded, guess what...no sound again! The picture quality is brilliant but why would there be no sound??

Have u guys encountered this before is it just my luck that BOTH those sources had a problem on the torrent?

Hope I make sense but please do PM me if you want more specifics...obviously I don't want to mention here :D

Firstly I would highly recommend UTorrent as it is arguably one of the best bittorrent clients out there. Using it you can be assured that you have got the complete file downloaded without any errors.

Second it sounds very much like the files you downloaded are fine but you are missing or have an outdated codec installed. I would recommend getting VLC Media player as it has all necesary codecs included in the program. Try playing the video files in VLC and if it still doesn't work let me know.

Fiekus.... Its just that copy of smallville i also had that problem... its not that theres no sound its jst very very very low... Try grab a diff copy of that episode... I knw there was sound on that ep cuz i connect my pc to my hi-fi and could only hear them speak when my hi-fi volume was basicaly on full.......

But i grabed this ver and its working fine WITH sound smallville.601.hdtv-lol.avi

Hope we speaking about the same episode :P

So ye if it is just goolgle this smallville.601.hdtv-lol.avi torrent :P

Avoid this version - it loses sync - rather go for the Smallville.S06E02.PROPER.HDTV.XviD-XOR version ;)

VLC rocks ;)

You gotta love Smallville :D
those torrenters are mental.....like a few hours after Ep 2 is aired its wacked on the the sites.Pretty awesome ;)

Hey guys, thanks for all the helpful advice and suggestions. Gotta love this forum

The torrent I grabbed (the second time) is Smallville 6x01 (HDTV-LOL)[VTV].torrent and it saved the file:
smallville.601.hdtv-lol.[VTV].avi (350MB). The first torrent I grabbed produced the following file: smallville.s06e01.hr.hdtv.ac3.5.1.xvid-nbs.avi (700MB).

I will try the codecs and just to let you know I use MediaPlayer Classic to view the file. I'll try to get the player you recommended too as well as the torrent client which will be my third so far.

I'll let you know of the progress. See ya!

it's because AC3 isn't installed on any PC by default. You just need the AC3 codec. If you not sure why a certain video doesn't play and you don't want to download every codec known to man, get something called GSPOT. it tells you the codecs used in the file and whether you have them or not.

Hi martmeister, I installed GSPOT and used it to open the avi file. Under the "audio" section it said "5 compatable codecs installed". I then pressed the "render" to button to attempt playback and it failed with the msg " DirectShow partially succeeded to play file. The actual text of the error or warning is:

0x00040258: VFW_S_AUDIO_NOT_RENDERED - Cannot play back the audio stream: no audio hardware is available.

The following combination of filters were used:

{C:\downloads\complete..-..01.hdtv-lol.[VTV].avi} (Video Source)
{Avi Splitter} (Video Splitter)
{ffdshow MPEG-4 Video Decoder} (Video Decoder)
{Video Renderer} (Video Renderer)
"
What does this mean other than it can't play the file?

Sorry for the nuisance :o

Ya, I'm changing my viewpoint a bit. If they cant offer an iTS in SA, then they do not really care about us. And if they dont even offer it in the US iTS, then I feel very little guilt

Sorry state of affaris when they make doing the right thing virtually impossible for the average person.

Guys, just a reminder. Do not refer to copyrighted material. I'm going to leave this discussion as it helps alot of folks, but please in future try to avoid mentioning copyrighted material you want to or have downloaded. p2p discussions are most welcome, but avoid mentioning specific files or where they can be found if they are copyrighted. That should remain in the private domain. Thanks.
